Earlier this year I picked up a 2013 Select Lite Ash Telecaster. I found it to be pretty ugly, imo, but I got a good deal on it used in mint condition. I hated the tort scratch guard and the gold together but I really like the White Blonde and the way it shows the wood grain through it, plus I like the birdseye neck, and well... it is nice and "Lite".

I swapped out the pick/scratch guard for a mint green one, which looks great, but the gold hardware still doesn't do it for me. I know it is supposed to be a premium option, but i think I would like this guitar a whole lot more if it had chrome hardware, eg, chrome locking tuners.

I will see if I can get photos posted. I don't think a white blonde tele, with mint guard, and gold hardware can be found by googling, as I tried. Any thoughts on that color combo? Likes or dislikes?

If I want to swap the hardware what are the recommended kits or suppliers to do so? Or is it better to just buy genuine fender parts ala carte? I think I want to go with locking tuners, stay with a vintage style bridge, and then I think I would have to replace the neck pickup in the least with one with a chrome cover?

I won't say anything about the colors & combinations - those are personal matters.

But if you want to switch the hardware, go part by part and identify/measure what you have now. Saves a lot of hassle when doing the install job. Fender parts usually fit Fenders best, but googling *best upgrade (insert part name here) telecaster* gives quite a lot of opinions on aftermarket part brands.

The only thing about gold hardware that isn't subjective (personal taste) is that it doesn't hold up well to lots of playing. If you're playing out regularly, the wear will certainly be a factor, something to consider beyond the look.
