Hi guy's I'm new to this forum since I'm new to playing Telecasters. I've played guitar for a long, long time but been a Les Paul guy almost exclusively. Two years ago I got a Tele as a birthday gift and I got hooked.

I love the guitar but have had some issuses with the Tonerider Alnico 2 blues pickups it came with. The pickup sounds alright at home playing slow blues over some backing track. But in rehearsals with my band or even more so when playing live, it lacks power. I use my volume pot to go from rythm (around 70% volume) to lead (100%). The Tonerider Alnico 2 blues 100% lead tone works fine, but when I'm playing rythm the signal gets too weak and the tone becomes thin and loses too much bite. The Tonerrider is about 6,5K, full on. When I turn it down to 70% it read only about 4,25K and that's too little to get me where I want to be.
So I just swapped it for a Seymour Duncan Jerry Donahue Lead. That pickup reads 7,7K full on and when I roll off I find myself around 6K where I still get a overdrive rowl.

I made a quick comparsion video but ironicaly I recorded it at home eager as I was with the new PU. And as I stated above: at home on low volumes the Tonerider sounds quite nice. But you can still hear the increased gain on the Duncan JD. Better string sepraration doesn't hurt either. But the real test gonna be rehearsals Monday and gig next Friday.

Enough talking, what do you think of the comparsion video?

Well, upfront I'd say it's difficult enough to compare over the web but by playing w/ a backing track it made it really difficult.
I'd agree w/ you and say the tones were both pretty good but the JD's seemed to be better at note separation and a little livelier.

Yeah I think you're right. The JD seems hotter and that was exactly what I was after. I have a gig tonight, that will be the first gig with this new pickup. That will be the real test. It sound good at home and a few days ago at rehearsals, but so did the Tonerider. Live is a different situation and previously I've felt that the Tonerider just wasn't up to snuff in a live situation. I'm hoping the JD won't let me down.
