Hi peeps,

Firstly I hope this is the right forum for the topic. :)

I bought the Fender Modern Player Telecaster Plus recently and even though I haven't had much time to play it I'm in love. Super impressed by the build quality! The neck feels amazing!

However the pickups sound a bit meh (especially the humbucker ...), and so I'm planning to do an upgrade.

Because, to be honest, I got no idea what I'm doing I'd swap the lipstick and Stratocoaster pickups for the Fender Vintage Noiseless Tele Pickups, but I'm unsure what do about the humbucker...

Any ideas/suggestions/tips are welcome! :)

Hi, welcome, congrats for the new(ish) guitar.

I don't know your musical & technical background, so first the "obvious" part:
Has the guitar been properly set up? (A bad setup ruins the best of guitars.)
Have you tested different pickup heights? (Finding the sweet spot should be a part of the setup, but often isn't.)
Is the meh something you get with this guitar only, and your other guitars play unmehhed? (= Can the meh be caused by something else than the Tele? And whatthefumblinghull is a meh?)

In a way, I'm trying to suggest giving yourself, the guitar and your other gear sufficient time to get accustomed to each other. The MP-Plus-Tele with the HSS combination and it's wiring is way different from the average workhorse SS/standard wiring Tele...

But, if all that is in order, tell us a bit more of what kind of sound you're after, it would be easier to suggest pickups and/or wiring mods.

The guitar had a once-over at my local shop, but there wasn't much work needed just small tweaks and a string change (prefer a heavy bottom :)).

I play blues, classic rock, and stuff from the 60s. In my initial post, I already stated two of the pickups I'm probably going to get. So mainly, I'm looking for some guidance regarding an accompanying humbucker.
However, I'm open to suggestions for any alternatives to the Fender Vintage Noiseless Tele Pickups.

By 'meh' I meant that the sound isn't bad, but it's also not very good. Just flat really. I got a Gretsch semi-hollow and the humbuckers on that have a much warmer tone with a lot of sustain.

Thanks!

Wasn't trying to be a snob. I only interpreted your 'recently' as 'had it for some time'.

How about throwing in a Lace Sensor Ultra pickup set?
