The guitar is a Fender Telecaster, and I chaned both bridge and neck pickups.

I already changed them something like 10 years ago, this was done in a shop, and they did a horrible job, because when I opened it the other day, it was filled with blobs. My objective was to put back the original Fender pickups, and I am getting a lot of noises and hum. I am getting noise which stops when I touch the volume / tone plate or knobs. I am also getting a lot of noises when I touch the neck pickup (or the noises stop when I touch it). The bridge pickup seems to be less noisy.

First of all, some pictures:

Image

In the first picture you can see how the bridge plate is grounded. This is a mistake I did before, and someone pointed it to me, but it really didn't stop anything.

Second picture is the overall plate.

Third picture is the pickup selector. You can see to the very left the hot neck pickup wire, and the yellow bridge pickup wire. before i did this, both of this were horrible blobs that I tried to clean. The person who did it before me was not putting the wire through the holes.

Image

In the fourth picture you can see how everything grounds under the volume pickup. it is a big blob. I tried to remove the blob and resolder them one by one, but it was imposible. The two blue wires in the bottom are the bridge and neck pickup ground, which then go to that wire there that goes to the volume ground. This is how the person before me did it, and I did it again the same way. Here you can see it open, but I do use a electrical tape to cover that soldering point. So when it is inside, it is covered in tape.

Last picture is the tone knob which I haven't touched at all.

Now the sounds

This is what happens when I touch the bridge or the volume knobs plate: https://clyp.it/qvtksdcc

This is what happens when i touch the neck pickup: https://clyp.it/5rvejqqn

This is an example of strange high pitch noises I am getting https://clyp.it/1soayxct

More of the strange noises https://clyp.it/bsuun5qg

Last one of the strange noises https://clyp.it/e3gucbbx

Please, it would be amazing if someone could point to me something I did wrong to get this crappy sound. If I put the strings, the guitar sounds OK, but as soon as I increase the gain or volume, I get all this strange stuff.

Dont tell me to go to a luthier or something like that, I want to fix this myself. I want to be able to change my pickups.

Thanks for reading all this and helping me!

My answer ; with your finger or a piece of steel ?

Sound sample are difficult to hear and to tell something. Look a bad ground.

You need all new wiring with good solder every where , Switch wiring and solder are horrible.

The only wiring which looks reliable is the tone pot...

Otherwise, the wiring needs to be sorted out and redone.
There's no use trying to diagnose what's wrong if every solder point is like that. As a guess; it's a grounding issue located... well, anywhere...

If you can't clean the vol pot and switch solderings (and wire ends), get new ones.
And the sensible way would be to use a good pro - he/she/it would get the guitar wired and set up in a couple of hours.

But if you absolutely want to DIY, it's quite doable but you need to start by practicing.
First, search the web for instructions - including a suitable wiring diagram for a Telecaster. And check you have the right kind of tools & materials.
Clean those blobs (that's a good way to begin). Solder miscellaneous pieces of wire to miscellanious pieces of metal until you get the hang of it. Don't jump on the guitar until you trust yourself to do the job.

Pics are always a good idea on these kinds of questions but the audio clips are useless without a voice-over explaining what is happening and when.
My advise would be to use your camera or phone to create a video, clearly spelling out ALL of the test conditions and upload to YouTube for posting here.
There are too many unanswered questions to form even an hypothesis, let alone a diagnosis.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

wow, after a few minutes of gazing at those photos... ouch... my head hurts!

if the "BLOBS" don't give, you may need a soldering iron with a higher wattage. Maybe the one you have just isn't hot enough. anything 45 watts or up should do it,, but who knows what they used when they created that mess.

at the end of the day.. I think mr. jmattis is right, much of the wiring/soldering needs to be redone. It's probably best to just get a few new 250k CTBs or Bourne pots and a new 3 way. For the money this will cost, it will be well worth it for the peace of mind.

if you're not handy with a soldering iron, may want to find (ANOTHER) place to have this redone.
