Hi there, please can anyone give me any advice on whether a Classic Vibe Custom Tele (the bound sunburst one) would be up to standard for a good guitarist?

A friend who is a very good guitarist played mine and said they really liked it. However, I am not sure if they are just being polite. I would like to buy him one as a thank you gift for a lot of stuff he has done to help me but I don't want to go ahead with it only to find it's not the kind of guitar that would be up to his standard and he was only being polite.

I know how good a guitar is can be very subjective but is there anybody out there with more knowledge than I have that can advise me as to the quality of this guitar. I know you cannot guarantee that he will like it but hopefully someone can comment on the quality and playability of it.

Many thanks

I think there's a difference between how good is a CV-Tele and will your friend love it.
For the first part, CV series Squiers are real nice instruments.

Hi JMattis, thank you for your reply.

Obviously I cannot tell if someone is going to 'love' any guitar, even a very high end Custom Shop one. That is totally a personal thing.

I guess I maybe didn't word my original post very well. What I was interested in was people's opinions of the CV's and whether one was likely to play sufficiently well and be of a high enough standard to be acceptable to a good guitarist!

Many thanks for replying and my apologies for not making myself clear.

I have many high end guitars and I fix guitars and amps since long time .
Few years ago a customer bring me his Classic Vibe, I was impressed. For the price is a very good guitar.

They are very nice.

I have played about 3 or 4 different examples, I was never not pleased with the experience.

For the money, there's really not much to complain about.

This question comes up a lot and most responses I've seen say "define good"....just sayin'....

true Mike,

My cut is, for under $400 USD, they're pretty convincing examples.

But,

Anyone who'd argue there is no difference to this and a $1,300/1,500 dollar US made Telecaster either doesn't understand the differences, or just clueless.

Thank you to those of you who have posted constructive and helpful replies.

Miami Mike, in this case good means what I said - good! Damn good actually. Good enough to have recorded and been invited to play as many festivals.

Kidblast, I am not suggesting that there is no difference between the CV and a US made Tele. Of course there is going to be.

I am a beginner to guitar playing and my knowledge of guitars, whilst not too bad now, still has a long way to go which is why I came here to try and obtain a cross section of opinions before buying something for a friend that could turn out to be totally unsuitable for them.

Please let's keep this nice and not let it turn into having a dig at someone who admits their knowledge is not yet great but it sensible enough to seek advice or poking at each other.

Surely we are all here for one thing? The love of fabulous Fender guitars!

Thanks for the constructive and helpful input, it's much appreciated.

Cider, I have been delighted with the CV50s Butterscotch I have, great feel, finish and tone, and I would be surprised if your mentor wasn't pleased and touched by your gesture. Whatever level player the dude is, I doubt he'd be insulted by it.

My comment was maybe miss leading. I wasn't meaning to take a poke at any one.

These CV Teles are very good.. And not just "for a beginner" good. The devil is in the details tho, fret wire, woods used, hardware components and electronics, etc.. that's really what I was getting at.

Hey KidBlast, no worries mate!
I guess I have just seen too many forums where a simple thread ends up in a big row or unpleasantness and I was scared of causing that!
Thanks loads for explaining what you meant, totally get it now.
Really appreciate your help and kindness :D

The law of diminishing returns applies. For each extra dollar you put into a guitar, you get less back.

There's a sweet spot where a guitar does all you want it to do, sounds good enough, and plays well enough, and anything dearer than that will be better, but not in proportion to how much more you have to pay. That sweet spot is different for everyone, but most will be more than well enough served by a Squier Classic Vibe.

For me, the sweet spot is at the MIM Standard level, but don't let that deter you. For the amount of money you pay, you get a lot of guitar with a Classic Vibe.

Just curious if you bought the CV for your friend and if he liked it. The Classic Vibe is an excellent guitar and in many ways a step up from the Modern Player series from Fender. A local blues guitarist uses a CV Tele and he could probably buy anything he wanted but told me he loves his CV and uses it more often than many of his other guitars.
