A local shop just got this thing in. Does this appear to be a fender body? I'm quite curious about it. The shop owner is labeling it as a frankenstein tele because he can't find out much about it.

The truss rod hole alone tells this is not a Custom Shop Telecaster.

I'd say that's a Squier neck - if it's from FMIC at all.
Squier has also made some bound bodied Teles, but they're double bound - at least as far as I recall. The markings in the neck pocket might tell more, but all in all, this guitar is fake so why bother...

The fake logos make the whole guitar questionable - would be a good idea and "the right thing to do" to strip all logos before selling it.

The value depends on the parts used (pickups, pots, etc.), the craft skills of whoever made it (those can be evaluated with a guitar autopsy) and then, if all is well so far, how the guitar feels, plays and sounds.

A partscaster isn't necessarily a bad instrument, it's just those fake logos that put me off. But I would not pay more than what an average Squier Tele price level is in that 'hood - and even that money only without the stickers.

The tuning machines are also not Fender issue.
The real "Fender" Schaller tuners do not have a screw lug.
They have pins that fit into holes in the headstock under the body of the gear section of the tuner.

Like this one:

This one is a locking tuner but the part about the pins is the same for the non-locking ones.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My guess on the tuners is Wilkinson, price level some thirty monetary units.

Yep, another telltale sign for the body being fake is the strap lock, which on real Fenders are always at an angle, pointing towards toward the headstock. And the pickguard, which for real Fenders have a rounded corner next to the control plate.

And the truss rod hole on real Fenders are always on the s-l-o-p-e (sorry, lame word filter on this site), and not the flat of the headstock. And that's not maple either, which you can tell from the dark grain stripes.

There are plenty of these cheap Chinese copies, and paying more than $100 for one is paying too much. You'll have to get new pickups at the very least, because they have truly awful ones (if all of them work). Just walk away and buy the cheapest Squier you can find - it's going to be better.
