Hi all,

I've just bought a new tele standard hh. Did not notice any problems in the shop, but after some time I started noticing some buzz on opened low e (barely noticeable through my amp). In principle, I know what could cause such buzz, but I've checked everything - neck relief is ok, action is not too low, 1st fret action is ok, when I press the string between the 2nd and 3rd frets there is some tiny space, the nut action seems ok. The neck is not warped and the frets seem fine. One strange I've noticed is the following. When I push on the string behind the nut, the buzz goes away... I am really puzzled with all this and what can I do to fix the problem.

I would appreciate any help.

Your guitar is new.
1) Return the guitar or exchange it for another.
or...
2) Have the shop where you purchased it, or a authorized Fender service shop, adjust your nut slot, which is likely the problem.

My first guess is, something is wrong with the nut slot. The nut slot bottom should have a small contact area on the neck side, then open (like a trumpet bell) down and wide towards the tuning machines side. Or it may be that the E-string clinches to the sides of the slot and doesn't sit properly in the slot bottom.

As a quick diagnose/fix, tune the E-string down, enough that you can lift it from the nut and put it aside while you take a piece of very fine grit wet/Dry paper (say, 800-grit or finer, whatever you have handy), fold it in two and pull it a couple of times through the slot, making sure you tilt it downwards on the tuners side. Retune, see if it got better.

And, it's never a bad idea to let a pro do the 'initial setup for a new guitar'...
