EMG's IMO are one of the best out there. I would suggest that you go on youtube and search for a guitar that has them, because EMG's can have a hard crunchy sound for more Metal, but really depends on the model. As for the Fenders I can't say anything because I have never used or heard them.

I will add that EMG's will provide a lot more power.

It all depends on the style of music you play. I have SCN's in one tele and my Esquire and they have a good range. My teacher took his out of his American Deluxe Strat and replaced them with Joe Bardens. He plays a lot of weddings, so he feels they give him the best range. Check out harmony Central, you will get a lot of good and honest opinions.

I'm only guessing that you may be tired of the 60 cycle hum, so maybe a cheaper or easier route would be to try a noise gate or hum elimination products and go from there.

The SCN's do sound very very clean. Almost un tele like. If you are looking to soup the sound up a bit. I realy like the Seymour Duncan's that I just put in a Hwy1. In fact it's in my lap right now. LOL. I first put a Hot Rails in the bridge and to my ear the stock neck p/u and the S.D. wasn't a good fit. So I ended up with a Hot Rails in the bridge and a Quarter Pounder in the neck. It sounds f'n wicked!!!!! But the funny thing is that the $50 purchase at GC of that bridge p/u ended up with me totaly modding brand new Hwy1 tele, with p/u's I even put in 500k pots, a series/split/paralel swich, and a $20 bla bla cap. I then went out and traded two nice mim's to get back my Hwy1 tele and keep my new Telemonster. Peace. J.J.B.

I own a Highway One Tele and I love it for the hummy buzzy single coils :D.
But if you want to kill the buzz I'd go for the Fender sams, they're made by Fender I don't think their active unlike the EMG's. They also look cooler.

As much as I liked my Hwy1, this weekend I able to trade it and 2 beans for a standard. I love it it's great!!! But I still have the p/u's, bridge, and electronics out of my modded one. And first unsuspecting MIM I can get I'm stuffing that stuff in to. It's a great sound. The standard is definately a different instrument. Think I realy screwed the pooch with two tele's in two months. I'll be eating tuna for a while. You got have priorities though. Peace. J.J.B.
