What was the very first year Fender introduced red body and a Maple neck ? The one my friend has in question has a solid black Fender Logo with solid black Telecaster on head stock. It also has a 3 saddle bridge. He bought it when he was 18 and he is now in his 60s please help

AFAIK: Black logo was first introduced in 1967. Maple freboards were the first, rosewood came later. Some shade of red has been available since the first custom colors were introduced...

So, the info you give doesn't really help... Does the guitar have a serial number, that would tell the approximate year?
And... pics, please!

Am I understanding this right?
- Your friend and you don't want to do anything to check what the guitar tells. Not even take pics of it.
- But your friend and you want help from the forum, based on a few minor info droplets which don't help.

Get real.

That old the serial number should be on the neck plate/bridge plate.
Here's a link to an older VG article that may be useful:

I have begged him to take the neck off but he is old and said he had always been not to take it off. I was hoping there might be another way like pot# in the guitar. I know it's a slim chance but I promised him I would. Thanks anyway

No serial number on plate. He said all he knew was that he bought it from Steve Warriner's dad's music store in Russell Springs KY used but was in mint condition. Now it has his pinky finger wore out by bridge plate 3/4" deep. Now that's some playing

Sure you can pull dates off the potentiometers or possibly the body cavity. The pickups should give you some clues as well.
You can get some info from here also:
