I received this gear from local korean dealer shop a few days ago.
I first found the white scratches around the edge of the F hole but I did not consider it as a big problem.
Because as long as the guitar makes a quality sound, I thought such scratches were tolerable.

But Yesterday, during playing with my band members, the VOLUME knob fell apart. And it is quite a
ridiculous situation to expect from a $2000+ Fender guitar..
I wrote a complaint letter to the dealer shop asking for a free set up. and i am currently waiting for an answer.

I want to ask people who purchased any Thinline Telecaster that had they witnessed any scratches around the edge of the F hole. If so, is it normal for Fender Thinline guitars to have such flaws?
because I wanna make sure if I am being too sensitive or not.

Lastly I wish Fender workers to read this post and give some more care to your gears. People who buy your guitars expect almost perfect finish as your gears are very expensive.

Thank you,
-

Has the guitar seen some hard times, or been opened by an amateur without the right tools? A couple of the screws look like they have been subjected to abuse. If so, it might help explain the volume knob too.

My MIM Thinline '72 RI has no finish problems. But it's also urethane, which extends down to the bottom edge of the soundholes.

The edges of the F holes are not smooth, but left a little rough, and painted black. This is common on many guitars. I suspect that the white marks are actually polishing compound that has been left on and has dried. If so, it should be fairly simple to wipe it off, maybe with a slightly damp cloth, and then wiped with a dry cloth.
The knob should just pop back on the shaft and then tighten up the grub screw in the side to hold it tight.

Another poor quality control story from Fender ?

I never bought a brand new guitar if I don't see it and play with it before.

I agree that looks like left over polishing compound that should just wipe off.

Am I the only one who thinks people are getting a little bit silly about what they will complain about?

This person went to the trouble to create a user account to gripe about a Fender on a public forum.... and hasn't been back since, I might add.

If that had been my guitar I would have been far too busy playing it to notice a little bit of cake build up.

If I had noticed it I would have touched it with my finger, figured out what it was and dealt with it myself.

Whatever happened to caveat emptor?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

To quote the late Mr. Bowie: Oh no, love! You're not alone!

I diagnosed this as buyer's hangover, trolling or just plain simply, a first world problem.
Like said above, the white stuff a) is most likely polish compound leftovers, and b) invisible except for a very close view of a very suspecting eye.
And the "knobloose mishap"... Well, every guitar, new or old, deserves a full setup after purchase. Loose screws get fixed with that.

I was considering buying one of these last year and after playing one first hand, I concluded it was a very nice guitar...but not for me. I feel for that price, that I should get exactly what I want and not have to settle for anything less. I searched out a custom builder and had one built to my exact specs with top shelf parts for substantially less. I liked my telecaster so much that I had a Jazzmaster built to match it.... both in sonic blue with a nitro finish :D

Really, we should expect it to be bolted together properly especially when Fender have called it "Elite".
To me though it's a non-issue.
Put it back on, tighten it up and enjoy.
With regard to the f-hole, I had the same with a G&L ASAT. Damp cloth and a dry and "problem" solved.
I always take the volume and tone pots off my new guitars to get the protective film off the pickguard and perhaps that's what's happened here.
