Hi all,

Does anyone know about the korean special edition telecasters? Are these guitars collectable at all? Seems like the Korean telecasters are somewhat rare due to limited runs but are not that sought after (relatively inexpensive). From what I have read most of the Korean Fenders are less desirable than the MIM versions.

I am thinking about picking up one like this up cheap local, but I don't care for the color Atlantic Blue Metallic so I would repaint it. Would it be really awful to repaint one of these?

Thanks!!

You could make a few $€£ if you can get the guitar cheap and happen to find a buyer who really needs just that model, but nobody can retire on a Korean Fender value increase.

On the paint job, I'd keep it original. But (if you buy it), it's your guitar and you can do anything you want to with it.
BTW, a good (= pro level) refin is not easy to DIY or cheap to have done by a pro...

And some food for thought:
Are you looking for that specific model; a set neck HH Tele with Far East electronics, satisfactory to you after a major paint job? Or, would you be happier with another guitar, ready to play the day you buy it..?

In general, no newer guitar is collectible. Expect them to fall in value, at least unless you intend to keep them for several decades.
Even guitars that didn't sell well rarely increase in value, or even retain it. They may be less common, but the market is so saturated with millions of guitars for sale every day, that there's no demand driving the price up.

The decision should be based on what you want to play, which includes sound, features, looks, playability and whether you can comfortably afford it.

Personally, I see a MIK Blackout Telecaster as "meh", but that's me. It might be just the thing for someone else.
