Hi Everyone,
Looking to purchase my first telecaster. I was originally thinking of a '64 American Vintage, and I've heard great things about Suhr Pro T as well as the Hahn 228. Then yesterday was in a local guitar store and saw a Richie Kotzen Tele that looked amazing. After doing some research, the Kotzen gets great reviews. Was wondering however with the DiMarzio Twang King and Chopper T pick-ups if it will achieve the classic country sound of a Tele. Also, it doesn't have a tone control, but rather a mid boost (where the tone control normally sits). Any input on achieving classic tele tone with this guitar, as well as some of the tones listed in the song list below given my amp below (Jaguar Amplification Twin) as well?
Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Jimmy

Amp = Jaguar Amplification Twin
- 45 watts (class AB)
- 3-12AX7, 2-EL34, 1-GZ34
- Single channel with high & low inputs
- Master volume
- Class A half-power switch (30 watts)
- Customized Celestion Greenback speaker(s)

Tones to Achieve

That's a tough Tele to find to cover everything on your list. Sure the Kotzen model will cover the bottom half just fine but will struggle w/ the top half.
Maybe a Deluxe Nashville model w/ some pickup changes would get you closer to everything on your list.

You can get the typical tele twang from pretty much any Telecaster with a diagonal bridge pickup, regardless of the pickups and tone controls. For some, you may need to strike the string closer to the bridge. Don't let that stop you, if the overall playability is good.

With the Jag amp, any of the guitars you mention (in fact, any Tele...) will stretch to the sound universe you're after. Just get the one you love the most. Play the guitars to find out: an AVRI with its 7.25" radius/vintage frets feels very different from the Kotzen's 12" radius/jumbo frets...

Of course, if you want to go the "equipment, not the player" way, you need a different Tele for each of the song samples... :mrgreen:

If you know what you want (fret size, fingerboard wood & radius, body wood, tuners, pickups, switching system, etc.), call Fender. They'll build one to your specs if they don't have a production model that already covers what you're after.

Have you checked the Custom Shop website to see what current models they're making?

It helps to state your budget, too. That's where most of us begin. Some sites offer very good financing. For example, American Music Supply offers 12 payment option.

I'm looking for a Tele that's built with all the features of the Eric Clapton Strat, except I want it as a Tele with an ash body. I haven't found a production model like that, yet, but I'm dreaming. :D
