Hey everyone,
I'm new to the forum
I'm looking to buy this fender telecaster from a guy. But I'm trying to do my due diligence and make sure everything checks out since I've heard some horror stories about fakes.
Attached are pictures of the guitar body. The neck checks out and I'm not worried about that, what I dont know too much about is this body. Is the body real?

Thank you in advance!

If it helps anyone the serial # on the neck is E319953 and the date code stamp on the bottom of the neck is JAN 10 1984

The following is a link for the body of the guitar

Looks legit to me.
Except for the star ground coming off the volume pot, not connected to anything?
The tone cap may be a replacement and the switch as well.
Here is a thread w/ a couple of examples of 83 Tele's that might help.

IMO body was a "new" paint.
Lots of work on electronic, look a vey poor job.
One lug ( with black wire ) close to the switch is loose, there is no need for it, remove.

Why don't you post picture here ?

My response is unchanged from the one I gave you Friday night on TDPRI - yes it's a legit 1984 Tele. The body is legit; this how they did them back then. One thing I didn't comment on was the paint partially covering the micro-tilt mechanism in the neck pocket - it could be sloppy work at Fender or it could have been repainted early on in its life (the paint is pretty yellowed). Personally I think it is just sloppy work from Fender - they were better at that time, but as long as the overspray on the mechanism didn't stop it from working they weren't going to go back and redo something like that.

You didn't show the photo of the wiring on TDPRI - it's either been rewired at some point, or once again it was really sloppy work at Fender. That one I'm not sure on.

This wiring It is not a Fender work IMO

Too much sloppy work ( paint and wiring ) to said it is made by Fender

I don't think you're trying to say the body and electronics are fake, just that they have been modded. It most definitely is a real 1984 Fender Standard Tele.

While I have seen some from that era that are really sloppy this one is missing any stickers and the stamps are pretty well obscured; given that I'm coming around to your thought that this was refinished - but given the yellowing it had to have been done at least 25 years ago.

You've also convinced me that someone did a very sloppy rewiring job on it - the soldering looks really odd - almost (but not quite) as bad as me trying to solder something.

No, it's definitely a 1983-84 Standard Tele neck, body and bridge. It appears to have been refinished and in the process it was rewired as well. I think the pickups are stock too; but they would have had to remove everything to refinish the body leading to it being rewired. Or it's the absolute worst example of a "Friday afternoon" or "Monday morning" Fender from this era that anyone has seen.
