I'd suggest the 60th Anniversary 'Telebration' Empress Telecaster !

Mine plays great, terrific sustain, and weighs-in just <5lbs.

cheers!

The OP hasn't signed in since the day the topic started - and it's possible he hasn't read this at all since there's been no comments.
Hope someone used the email option suggested, otherwise all this valuable info has been in vain...

Nah, not in vain. Others may search for info on light guitars in general or light telecasters in particular, and this thread might pop up. It could be a Google search, for that matter.
So in my view, it's all good; as long as Fender keep old threads around, someone might get helped even if we don't hear anything.

This useful stuff .I am old and weary and also have a few old fart medical issues. My Gibson Midtown is 8.1 lbs not too bad but a killer in its case and not a gigbag type guitar. My tele is a partscaster made from a paulowonia wood body and a good MIM neck and Van Zandt pickups .Plays nice but needs a good paulowonia or may be a chambered ash body .While paulowonia is great as a body my one really was very cheap and although very playable doent really have a good neck pocket or bridge holes .Its slightly out of kilter .It does have a belly cut though!!!!! .The guitar weighs in at 6.4 lbs.
A great light guitar is the new Squier Bullet Mustang with the twin buckers .Perfect for old men and kids and for me short scale is a bonus .It comes in at 6.1 lbs on our daughters baby scales.Plays and sounds far better than it should for the low cost .
So thanks for all the info .I am now going to Sweetwater site to check the Mustang 90 weight .That looks like a real blues and maybe even a jazz machine .
I live in the UK by the way .

Just throwing this out... there is a discontinued Fender Tele that is made from Paulownia, or Empress wood. This wood is very light and would make for a very lightweight Tele. It was called the Empress Tele, I think, and was part of the Fender 60th anniversary "Telebration" range...which would make it 2010, or thereabouts.

G&L makes Empresswood Telecasters on a semi-regular basis from their Fullerton location. I have not seen actual weights on the telecasters but imagine they're 5-6LB with no chambering.

It looks like swamp ash to most people but it's much lighter. Here is a board that I set aside because, similar to those Virgin Mary sightings, the grain formed into image of Homer Simpson - at least in my mind! Image
