Hello. Newbie with a question. I read a lot of the Frontline magazines when the "Time Machine" guitars first came out. I decided that I wanted a Closet Classic and I found a REAL Closet Classic that I bought from one of our old rhythm players. It was a 1983 sunburst Top Loader. I was like new except for a chip about the size of a pin head. The neck had turned a honey gold and the white pick guard had also turned yellow or as they say, "bar tanned". I know that even the CCs are supposed to show some signs of wear, but the neck plate is in really bad shape. It is really scratched and corroded and I want to fix it. Do I rechrome it or do I replace it with a new one? It says Fender on it and if I decide to replace it, where can I get one? Opinions please. I'll post pics if I can figure out how. Thanks

If you have to .. get a new one but make sure it is the same both in fit and looks.
There are plenty of vendors on ebay etc.
More importantly hold onto the old one and if you finally decide to rechrome it you will still be able to play the tele since you have the spare.
Just be careful when removing the neck if the process requires it and always insert the butt vertically down into the neck cutout not horizontally. :D

Good on you, post a couple picks when you can. Here is a link w/ a couple 83 top Loaders, if you need any reference pics.

I've always had good experience w/ Angela's:
