Hi, just seen a "USA Telecaster California" for sale on a second hand group. I'm assuming it's a California Series, but I can't find anything at all when searching the serial no. Could someone help me out at all? I'll post some of the seller's images too to see what you think of it. It's available for £575 (approx $718) Could it be a fake? Cheers Image Image Image

Look a American Special made in 2014

https://support.fender.com/hc/en-us/art ... ufactured-

This new scheme uses the letters “US” as a prefix to designate an instrument made in the United States, followed by an eight-digit number. The first two digits of the number identify the year of manufacture, (10 for 2010, 11 for 2011, etc.). The following six digits are the unit identifier, although it should be noted that these final six numbers are not sequential and do not provide any other identification information about the instrument. This new scheme is now used on the majority of U.S.-made Fender instruments, with exceptions including the American Vintage series and certain special-run instruments.

I'm with stratele52, an American Special.
The pickguard isn't original should be blk/wh/blk and 8 screws. Check with the seller if anything else has been changed.

Since the serial # is available, send it to fender customer relations and ask for the specs.
That should tell you everything you need to know.

Looks like the real thing. I wouldn't worry about the pickguard having been changed (if it has - it could be a dealer special). Mint on white is one of the more popular combinations, and I have it on one of mine too.

The used price is okay for US pricing, but seems a tad low for UK pricing, so check it out carefully to find out whether there's a reason for that.

Thanks for the responses, guys. Do you reckon this might be worth investing in? I'm only looking for a decent, but cheap (second hand) Tele to mod a bit (got some Lollar pickups I'd love to try in there). Do you think it could be worth a punt? The guy said it's recently had a set up in order to be sold and is going cheap to ensure a quick sale.

I dunno what a new or used American Special sells for over the pond. The important issue if I were considering it as a guitar I was gonna mod would be do I like the neck, are the frets in playable shape, and is the price right.
The price appears to me to be fair; a search here shows 600-899 for a 2014 model.

Few modern guitars are worth investing in. It'd be a good price for a player's guitar, for certain, but unless it's a rare model that people happen to want now but not when it was new, or a really old guitar, you're seldom going to make any money on them.

But for a player's guitar, something you can have a lot of good times with, yes, it's seems like a good buy. If it was just set up, and properly, you save on that too (unless you want a different action or string gauge than what it has, in which case it's another setup).
