I am not a new player. I am new to Fender. Therefore, I do not know what to look for to make sure things are 'authentic'.

What can you guys tell me about the guitar in this ad:

Looks sweet in that it seems all fender and has Noiseless pickups.
I am always wary of neck swaps etc and hard to see the serial but it should start with z0xxxx or dz0xxxx
If still concerned contact fender with the serial. :)

With noiseless look to be a American Deluxe Series.
Good price IMO.

Waiting for Fender serial number = loosing the guitar.

I answer the best I can with those poor pictures

Yeah I wondered deluxe but without the binding and abalone fret markers maybe a std with noiseless pickups...
I recommend you email the serial to consumerrelations@fender.com to be sure of what you have and how much it is worth :D

I don't pretend to know the difference between American and Standard and Deluxe. I assume I can google all of that.
As long as Corona California equals Made in the USA - because I remember all of those Charvel guitars that were stamped with Fort Worth Texas. It's been 30 years and people are still claiming that they were Made in the USA, lol.

But, from what little you can see... It looks to be real. Not a fake.
That is the important part to me.
And yes, I am well aware that some fakes look very real, your opinions aren't the same as having it in person at an authenticating shop.

It looks to be a real Fender; I believe it's an American Standard or American Series (Fender updated the model in July of 2000) that someone modded by installing Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups.

A 2000 American Deluxe Tele would have had chrome plated saddles, the raised chrome headstock decal, binding around the top, a tummy cut on the back, and abalone dots.

Everything points to a year 2000 American Telecaster in Hot Rod Red excepting the pickups. That color only lasted 2 years and is quite desirable. Looks great with the rosewood neck.
The serial number location was moved from the headstock front to the rear in the August 2000 revision.

Looks genuine, but I would not trust the seller.
Stating non-facts like it being mint (it isn't) and that this is a rare color (it isn't) means he might be liberal with the truth in other things too. That he accepts cash only is also a warning sign. You have no way of cancelling the sale and returning it if it turns out there's something wrong with it.

Actually the switch to the back of the headstock happened in 1995. There is some confusion about 1999s because Fender made a mistake when changing from E9 to N0 decals in late 1990 and some American Standards came out with "N9" serial numbers by mistake. At that point in time the letter prefix was part of the main decal (which had the Fender logo, the model name, the words "Serial Number", and the serial number prefix) and the numbers were a second decal. In the overlap they used main decals with an "N" and number decals that started with "9" instead of number decals that started with "0". These days the 2-part decal has the entire prefix (for example "US16") as one decal and the 6-digit number is a second decal.

The cash-only part is of no concern to me.
I say cash-only in every ad I ever do.
I don't put shipping info in my ads because I expect a local sale.
I ain't taking no cheque.
When I'm the one buying, I take cash with me.
When I'm the one selling, I want cash.

The questionable statements would steer me away.
There are a few eyebrow raisers there.

I ignored the guy that said that "cash" was a problem because I figured that he didn't realize that it is a local site with face-to-face sales.

But my question is --- what "questionable statements" are you talking about.
That is why I am here - to learn.

Well, as has already been mentioned, the seller says it's mint. It's not.
Mint implies as new, almost like it's fresh off the production line.
This guitar has been modified, forever excluding the word mint from being used.

If it was an AS it wouldn't have VN pups.
If it was an AD it wouldn't have solid white fret markers.
There is also the colour, which seems wrong to me.
I'm not at home right now so I don't have access to my normal information resources but I don't recall any "HotRod Red" being an option in 2000.
There was Crimson Transparent but this is a solid paint.
Maybe my brain has lost something there but I don't think so.
It could be a refin.

Understand, mods don't mean it's a bad guitar.
Sometimes mods are a good thing.
If the owner tries to imply the guitar is rare and mint when it's been modded, that gives me pause.
If the owner clearly identifies which mods have been made and he does so right up front, like before being caught, then I give that owner more credibility and trust.
Maybe I might buy a modified guitar from such a person, if I thought the mods were for the better and the value was reduced.
I would not buy a modified guitar from someone hiding things.
I view that person as a predator.

I never considered mods to negate the word mint. I always associate mint with its physical condition. As in, the lack of scratches. -- but, ok.

And Hot Rod Red, to me, doesn't mean that Fender called it that. To me, it is a shade. We all have an image in our head of what red looks like the minute someone says the word Ferrari. -- but, ok.

**although, I did just do a google for -2000 telecaster colors- and at the top of the list was a Youtube video of a 2001 in Hot Rod Red, and the first/top comment was "Hot rod red had such a short run on the stratocaster you can barely even find a pic of one on google."

Mint is a word that takes its roots from the coin manufacturing industry.
If a coin was mint it meant there were absolutely no deviations whatsoever from a perfectly minted coin.
I meant more than just no marks.
It also meant no voids, no impurities, no inclusions, no misformed areas.
It meant perfect, as new.

A modded guitar cannot be called mint.
It can be in excellent, condition.
It can be like new.
It can't be mint.
