I guess after doing a lot of research that I'd agree with all of the above.I love my Stratocaster Classic and Les Paul Custom, but that Telecaster just does something to me...Image

I purchased a natural finish American Standard Tele in April and absolutely love it. I have owned and played a Les Paul custom for the last 29 years. Maybe its just a new love affair, but I can't put the tele down. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I too, own several LP’s, Strats and Tele’s. I must admit that whenever a new guitar joined the family, that one was the most magical for the moment. In time, I’ve come to appreciate that they all have their special place in the stable. It’s not that they ever lose that magic; it’s there when you’re in a certain mood, time and place. On any given day, one can seem to be better than the other depending on the circumstances. They’re all fine instruments for their specific character and tone. :)

Play On!

I am a lover of short scale guitars.
My Les Paul has a shorter scale then my Tele and I find it more comfortable to play for long periods of time.
They don't sound even close to each other, which is how it should be.
The Tele feels like driving a Shelby GT.
The LP feel like driving a Lincoln....at least that's what they do for me.

I suspect whichever one you buy first, you'll end up with the other too.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this and his quote was "If you are recording, use a gibson... if you have to stand up with it for 4 hours, use a fender".

Not sure if its true, but I thought it was funny.

Jimmy Page did the exact opposite frequently recording with the Tele and playing live with the Les Paul.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I bought a Gibson Les Paul 37 years ago which I still have. I have always wanted to own a Fender and finally got the Amercan Standard Telecaster about 2 years ago. I love the sound of the Tele and have played it almost exclusively since I got it. I must say that I find it harder to play very fast lead on the Tele compared to the Les Paul. They are both great guitars however and I am really glad I got the Tele. By the way I'm left handed so getting to try out a range of instruments is not really viable as most music stores here in Australia don't carry a great range of left handed instruments. In both cases I purchased the instruments before having had a chance to try them out. I have been extremely fortunate that both guitars are fabulous instruments.

I don't have a Les Paul, but I just bought a Gibson ES 339 archtop, which is similiar in size to a Les Paul. It is a pretty cool guitar, but when push comes to shove, I will choose to play one of my teles at a gig. It has some great tone especially with the Memphis Tone circuit, but it may just be taking me more time to get used to playing the 339, so far its been a disappointment.

I prefer my Telecaster.

I had a gorgeous Epiphone Les Paul Custom that, after the arrival of my Tele, just didn't get played. So I sold it and bought a Gretsch, which is now fighting the Tele for play time. So many guitars, so little time!

I do like LP Juniors, though. If I could have one like this I would be a happy, happy man:
