I purchased a natural finish American Standard Tele in April and absolutely love it. I have owned and played a Les Paul custom for the last 29 years. Maybe its just a new love affair, but I can't put the tele down. Anyone else have a similar experience?

I have both and it depends on the music I am playing at the time. Just sitting with friends and jamming I will play two or more guitars doing the get together.

Teles and Les Pauls are both great guitars and have devoted--indeed, borderline maniacal--advocates. I have played both for a long time but prefer Telecasters.

I was talking to a friend of mine about this and his quote was "If you are recording, use a gibson... if you have to stand up with it for 4 hours, use a fender".

Not sure if its true, but I thought it was funny.

The Tele does feel like a light weight to the Les Paul for sure.

I have an 08 am std tele. Run that bad boy's bridge pup through a ehx lil muff into a Pro Junior and you'll think you're playing a les paul.

Fender really did a great job on their 08 standards!!

I really like them both, very differnt tones from each and I think they both are AWESOME. I really like the deep tone from the 57 humbuckers in my LP and that Tele clean sound is to die for. I wouldn't want to part with either. 8)

I've noticed sometimes there is a high level of euphoria when someone who's played the same kind of guitar for many years changes to something quite different. I've seen it in guitar reviews, too:

'I thought I was a Tele man until I played this LP . . .' or 'I've been a devoted humbucker guy for years, but I love the sound of this Strat . . .'.

I think after playing one guitar so long, the change in feel and tone can be pleasant experience. I don't think it's anything more complex than that.

I am a tele man, though I do own a Clapton Strat and two Martin Acoustics. I am also a Fender man, but I did play one Double Cut Les Paul that I would buy in a heart beat. Unfortunatley, I am so jammed up with guitars, that I don't need to add any more to the herd. It's shame, it looks nice with its blonde grain.

You really can't beat a good Tele. One guy I know has a vintage Esquire and LP custom. He and I both agree that a good Tele can sound heavenly or $@!&#* depending on how the player wants it to sound, normally Tele's sound better to my ears.

Every guitar has a sound, but the Teles have a lot more tone and range than people think.

It's funny that someone mentioned a LP Jr. My self just getting a Standard Saturday almost put it off one more paycheck because of a LP Jr. with two P90's, it sounded and played mint. But back to the question. I took home my new Tele and it's settling in well with herd and I chose it over a Les Paul. So in my humble opinion the new MIA teles are some of the best ever. Be it a Hwy1(which I'd personaly take over some of these super clean sparkly ones) or those high zoot ones that we all drool over. Great instruments. Peace. J.J.B.
