Hello all, new to the forum and hoping to be a new owner of a Fender guitar!!!

I am considering purchasing what I believe to be an American Standard Telecaster this Tuesday and I want to be certain that what I am buying is not a MIM, Special, or any other variant of the Telecaster. If anyone has tips on how to tell the guitar apart from other telecasters and how to be absolutely certain that it is indeed an American Standard please let me know.

Below are the pictures posted on craigslist:

I'm supposed to meet with him on Tuesday to check it out so hopefully someone can chime in before that... if you think it looks questionable or legit let me know!

Thanks.

Neck looks legit.
A couple of concerns with the body, which might be due to bad pic angles or aftermarket replacements:
- The upper bout strap lock does not appear to point to the headstock, as on genuine Fender MIA/MIM guitars. There also appears to be a gap under it on one side. Was this replaced, and if so why, and why a bad job?
- The lower corner of the pickguard seems to be slightly sharper and less rounded than genuine Fender pickguards. Was this replaced with a 3rd party pickguard, or is it the camera angle? And if it was replaced, why?

Otherwise:
- Ask if all the parts (except for strings) are original. Upgrades generally reduce the value, especially if the original part isn't kept. Replace cheap factory pickups with more expensive ones, and the value of the guitar generally drops.
- Check the fret wear. Pull the strings sideways, and look for grooves in the frets, especially on the treble side 1-3 frets, and overall on the 10-12 frets. If frets have to be filed down, that's $100, and if they have to be replaced, twice that or more.
- Check the nut wear. Make sure the strings don't disappear deep into the nut, and especially that one string doesn't dip much deeper than the others. This is mostly a problem on guitars used for rhythm and too hard pressing down on the strings, where the 2nd string 1st fret is used for C/Am/D7/F. Nut replacement is around $50-$100.
- Check that the jack connection doesn't rattle or needs several tries before connection is made. It's a common problem with teles, and while easily fixed, it may require a trip to a technician who has tools for tightening it.
- Play scales, not just songs when checking it out, and also listen for rattling sounds from the neck.

Pretty detailed concerns, I will be sure to ask about replaced parts as well as to check for all the listed issues with used guitars. If anyone else can give suggestions I am all ears!
