One question though. Are you still using the same
gauge string that came on that FMT Special Edition
from the factory?.009's for example,not gone up a
size to .010's. Just wondering.

At times I too mix the pencil lead shavings with
petroleum jelly and for something with a little
more "body" to it,I use Chap Stick right from the
tube.....part of my gig-bag gear.

String gauge makes a huge difference in nut performance, and each brand may have a different gauge string in their set compared to a competitor's set. It is not uncommon at all to have to adjust a graphite nut that has been pre-slotted. A luthier can do it for you if you are unable to do it correctly using a nut file. I personally use a nut lube no matter what type of nut is on the guitar. I make a hand-cut bone nut and replace the nut. Each nut slot is cut to perfection with the correct nut file for the string, per the gauge I use. Properly done, there should not be any catching or "tinking" in the nut. I also lube the underside of string trees with lube. Sometimes a loose tuner bushing can also cause this problem, so check that.
