Hi Everyone!

I am new to this forum. I would like to seek some help regarding this guitar that a friend wants to sell to me.

I have tried to research about it but what I am getting is the Fender Telecaster Black Gold 1981 limited edition.
It looks the same however it's in natural finish.

Can you guys help me identify this just in case you happen to have information about it.

I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

And he bough it new ?
If yes and he his your friend you write, you must trust your friend.

On old ( 2006 ) Guitar Vintage Price book these guitars are only in black.
The bridge is a Elite. Is the guitar is all original ?
Picture on the back may help
Serial number ;

There a re few expert on forum, they probably know.
What is the price he ask ?

I do trust him, it's just that this guitar is his dad's.

He just recently inherited it from him. As for the serial numbers, there were no serial numbers on the back of the neck and head stock.

Look at bridge or at steel plate on the back.

Anyway, to me it is a Elite telecaster, very nice guitar

Sorry I'm wrong :(

Definitely not an Elite Tele - they didn't come out until 1983 and they were quite different (mini-bucker sized pickups, 4 knobs, etc.) like this one:

To the OP could be one of two things - a Black & Gold Tele that was stripped of the black finish since the body and headstock should have been black. Or it was a natural finish Tele that someone replaced the standard hardware with the gold-plated brass hardware found on the Black & Gold Tele. Given that the most of the headstock decal (including the serial number) was essentially destroyed really anything goes on this one, but I might be leaning toward the guitar having been stripped of the original black finish on the body and the headstock and a replacement headstock decal didn't stick properly.

I appreciate your inputs guys. Actually I thought of that as well.
Later I will see the electronics part as well as the body cavity. Hopefully I'll be able to find more clues there and find out if this is really a black gold limited edition. If yes, it's sad that they had to strip it. I kinda like the black gold limited edition.

If this happens to be a stripped black gold limited edition telecaster, and the electronics were maintained, how much is the value if this? any hunch?

It's hard to say, but factor in the cost of some luthier's work - that green filled gouge on the first fret isn't a mark of value, and the fret grooves might make it hard to play without a fret dressing or even refret.

In any case, my recommendation is to never buy or sell from friends, no matter what the price. It can easily sour friendships when one side of the transaction isn't pleased.

I totally agree on that.
But if it will be appraised to others, roughly $200? US

Hi there .. plenty of info out there on a limited edition 1981 black gold tele.
Could this be one? Betcha it has been stripped.
There may be evidence under the guard etc.
It is a shame it has been stripped since it really lowers the value particularly since the decal has been mucked around with so yeah probably not worth too much.
:D

Thank you guys. Would appreciate if you guys would direct me to some links that explains how to validate if this is a true black gold. I am yet to test the microphonic pups of this baby. What's bugging me is if this one has been stripped, will it suppose to have that "tail" on the headstock? what do you guys think?
