In the past year I've bought an American Special (CS Texas Specials) and an American Professional Telecaster HS

I'm really impressed with the pickups Fender makes.

I have some other Telecasters (Tele's are all I play, with some High priced hand made boutique pups... )

I have no intention of swapping the pups out of either guitar. That's a testament to Fender. The Special with those CS TS and the grease bucket circuit SMOKES!... if your looking for a pup set that's hot but not too hot that it won't twang that's the CS TS. IMO they are very SRVish meets a Tele. Full and dynamic.

The promo for the Amer Pro Telecaster HS said Fender did a lot of prototypes to get the split coil of the Humbucker to sound like a 50's telecaster (said they also matched the neck to a 50's too.) IMo they did a great job. The split coil captures a 50's Tele bridge tone. I also like the voicing of the Humbucker too. It's not too over the top, its hot but not by that much.. (with humbuckers the super hot types sound real muddy unless you push heavy gain)... Both pups on the Professional have a wide EQ range, hence a plethora of tonalities

I noticed Fender on all there American made models use their own pickups..very cool. The guys in the Pickup department at Fender have my respect...

You think about it, Fender have been doing it for a long time and they got it right pretty much from the start.
The Broadcaster/Telecaster/Lap Steel pickups in their designs. With all their quirks, like the angle of the bridge pickup. The placement of the neck pickup right under the 4th harmonic node. All contributed to instruments built then that you could use for any application today. (yes I'll happily play crushing grindcore on a Telecaster)
Personally, I'm a bit of a pickup snob. Well I say snob, more I'm always ready to throw something else in a guitar. Just to see how it sounds. Aside from a couple of duffers, Fender have always knocked out quality pickups.

I like AmStd pickups, but I replaced those with pickups I really love: Nocasters in the Tele, 57/62s in one Strat. I don't think I could be happier with anything else. I do keep AmStds in one Strat, and they'll stay there. Fender does make some great pickups.

I put a set of texas specials in one of my strats about 16 years ago when they first emerged from the CS.

the search ended for the tone I was looking for out of that axe that day.

my second strat has fat 50s with a maple neck, which is another fantastic pickup choice from Fender.
