I've recently acquired what I believe to be a 2008 American Standard Tele body Midnight Wine in color, problem being according to Fender information Am Std's didn't come in Midnight Wine, I've posted this question on a couple of other forums and the consensus is that the body is definitely a US made Am Std body so why is it the color it is, has it been repainted or did Fender actually release some Am Std's in Midnight Wine?

The date stamp on the body is AUG 07 2008 the last digit is hard to read but I'm certain it's an 8 and also a stamp #56186 which I believe is the correct part number for an Am Std body solid color. I don't see any evidence of it being modified or repainted.

Maybe someone on this forum can shed further light.

Thanks

Why don't you just send the serial number information to Fender Support and request the specifics sheet.
The link is at the bottom of the pages and will provide all the information on your guitar.

I've only got the original body of the guitar and there is no serial number on the body. When I bought it, it had a Warmoth neck on it, the guy I bought it off said the guitar belonged to his son (sadly passed away) and the original neck was damaged a few months after he bought it.

Looking at your pics I'd venture the guitar has been painted.
I do not typically notice a paint mask-line inside the neck pocket on an American Standard. It also seems odd to me that the pup cavities look like the shielding has been painted over. That, and the paint job does not look as good as a Fender original finish should. If you wait a little bit for a better response there are others on this forum better equipped than I to make a determination.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I don't claim that "better equipped" status, and this whole thing might remain a mystery to some extent, but here's something to go on:

I'd say you can rest assured that is an American body - all shape details and routings fit, plus there is the Micro-Tilt™.

AFAIK: The "56186 " belongs to US Hot Rod Fat Tele body, with solid color paint - so maybe the year stamp is actually 2000..? And even then, I second the BTW-KTM refin opinion; US-HR-Fat wasn't available in Midnigth Wine.

But the Special Edition/catalogue error/exception to any rule/other happenstance possibility is always present with Fenders
