You'd think if they were going to be so exacting about details that didn't pan out, like the serial on the trem cavity plate. They'd stick to the colour scheme of 54.
bet it's got a 5 position switch too

Sorry, I digress and half jest.

Nothing wrong a little digression. If they wanted to be faithful to the original, it would have come with a wound G string, much thicker gauge strings, and a nut cut accordingly.
It's supposed to resemble the original (at a distance in low light), and not be a replica.

I thought reissues were meant to be just that, a re issue of the guitar of that year. So forget a colour 54-55. Black, white or sunburst 56-59. And then Cadillac colours.
So I can't see the point in putting the serial on the cavity cover and claiming it's vintage correct, when the paint is incorrect. I know which should be more resembling a 54 from a distance

Perhaps I'm just being pedantic.

I think Fender need to do something. I had a look through the current catalogue of Strats earlier.
Uninspiring to say the least. The most daring things on there are the Dave Murray and Buddy Guy Strats.

According to A.R. Duchossoir the custom colours - i.e. non-standard specific finishes - were thus used at factory level as early as 1954 to satisfy the requests of a handful of playing artists.

So it's possible that Cimarron Red was used on a few Stratocasters in 1954.

As far as a Custom Shop '54 Strat not being spot on to one made in 1954 well... I can't see any difference.

You can't see that the G string isn't a .026" roundwound?

I'm sorry but that doesn't make a difference to me.

All the differences you guys point out are not significant, they're just nitpicking in my opinion.
