Hey guys, I just bought my first telecaster, it's also my first guitar with single coil pickups so I read up on it and learned that they will hum some and be a bit more noisy than my other guitars.
It's an american standard and I tried one at the closest guitar store, it felt great so I bought one.
Now, when I plugged in my guitar, the noise was really prevelant, I can't record nor use it at band practice because of the noise.

It's a constand crackling noise, it doesn't go away and I thought maybe something is faulty or something, it just doesn't seem normal to me.
So I was wondering if anyone knows what this is and if anyone knows what to do about it?
The guitar is great otherwise, it plays beautifully, sounds great etc.

I am posting a link to soundcloud so you can hear the noise and how loud it is when the guitar is played(hope this is allowed).

I don't think it is the guitar.Did you bought it new or second hand ?

Witch amp do you use ? It could be the amp. Or effect pedals. Or bad ground at wall outlet or amp.
Single coils can pickups noise from cel phone, PC, neon lamp or electric motor.

In normal houses these are no problem, these are my experience with my singles coils guitars, teles and Strat I have .
Same with my friends single coil guitars. Single coil guitar are quiet but less the humbucker guitar, but they are.

Try you gear in other home.
Try other amp.
Try another single coil guitar.

More informations will help.

Were you sat in front of your computer screen?
That's what it sounds like to me.
Aside from that I couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary.

In my experience, the two most major sources of EMI being picked up by guitars are light dimmer switches and aquarium pumps, neither having shielding worth a damn.

There are two ways that electromagnetic noise travels: Through the electric wires, and through the air.
The first can be alleviated through a UPS that decouples the mains from the outlets, a special device like a Hum-X, or by ferrite chokes on the cables. If this is the case, the most success will be had by adding the noise suppressant to the outlet where the noise is produced.
The second is radio frequencies traveling through space, and can be alleviated somewhat, but not fully, through shielding of the guitar and/or amp. Most Fenders have shielding paint in the cavities, but this can be improved with metal foil in both the cavities and back of the pickguard.

Hi JonHan,
I can't access soundcloud because the link that you posted is defective.
While you initially discuss "hum" in your above post, you describe the problem as a "constant crackling noise".
What you describe sounds like static electricity from the pickguard, is being picked up by your pickups.
If that describes your problem, you have a common Fender problem with a relatively easy solution.

Buy some copper tape such as linked below.
https://www.amazon.com/Electronics-Cond ... opper+tape
Remove your pickguard - you will probably need to remove the neck pickup from the pickguard.
Examine the pickup height above the pickguard and below the strings before removing the strings and the pickguard from the guitar, so that you will know how high to adjust the pickup upon reassembly.

Apply the copper tape to all areas of the pickguard, and reassemble.
The copper tape will act as a static electricity sink.
This will cure your " constant crackling noise".
If this is not your problem, please advise.

Only other thing i can add is maybe a faulty instrument cable or a loose jack. Best of luck.

Or the amp or house / amp ground...

I did not find what kind of amp it is :(

More test is needed to say it is the guitar.
