Hi from Spain!
Years ago I was owner of a classic Telecaster '71 Placid lake blue (not custom or thinline). Unfortunatelly was stolen. I would like a brand new telecaster today but...what todays tele is the most similar to my great Tele of 1971? A not very expensive option will be wellcome!
Thanks in advance

First of all, no guitar can ever match the memory of that "your" Telecaster.

But if you want to give it a try anyway, here's some starters, taking into account the price factor you mentioned. (With unlimited funds, you could order a fine replica from the Custom Shop.)

If your guitar was a "normal" Tele, the present Standards aren't a bad option. Both MIM (rosewood fretboard) and AmSpecials (maple fb) have the Lake Placid Blue color option. But they have a 9.5" radius and big frets, your original was likely 7.25" with small frets.
The 7.25" is available in the Classic Series (60s with rosewood, 50s for maple fretboard), but then you would need to accept some other body color. How does the old faithful CAR appeal to you?

And then there is the second hand option. The seventies has turned to vintage, so prices are high for a 1971 survivor. But as above, affordabler newer ones could be an option. An LPB Japanese from the eighties, perhaps?

But any guitar you consider, try to get to play it before you buy it. Easy for those new guitars, trickier for used ones on ebay/reverb etc.

I prefer a 7.25" with small frets! No problem with the color because I have a Blue Strato. Too blue for two guitars! I will look the classic series. A vintage Tele is unaffordable for me.

Thank you very much! :D
