Hi

They seem to be getting good reviews.

Here are a couple.

http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guita ... ter-632955

http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guita ... ter-632952

Music radar liked the strat slightly more. I would go try them both and see. I have a Deluxe and I love it (Did change the pups though)

Tom

The spoke-wheel truss-rod system is met with too many negative feedback, hope Fender deletes that feature from the Elites and reinstates the good ole BiFlex w/ MicroTilt.

It's less noticeable with the rosewood board. After looking at it for a while I think they could make it less ugly by widening the cutout on the pick guard such that it creates a dark area that fills the cutout on the fretboard so there's no contrast around the wheel.

That would only work on the rosewood board, though. I have no idea how they could disguise it better on maple board guitars and the rosewood boards with binding are pretty much hooped too. The binding stops and draws attention to the area. Scooped this pic from the bass forum. It does point out though that if the binding was not present an area of darkness could disguise the ugly wheel on a rosewood board guitar.

+1
If Fender continues to use a truss rod wheel on the Elite series guitars, at least they should design it like Music Man guitars, where the wheel extends below the neck into a cut out in the body above the neck pickup, and the appearance of the neck is not degraded.
Of course, that would require a modification of Fender pickguards for a Music Man style neck, which may be a deterrent to Fender using that style of a truss rod wheel neck.
If Fender should return to a traditional "American Deluxe" neck, I wouldn't be concerned if they did away with the "MicroTilt" adjustment, which, as you may know, I find to be somewhat useless.
I am surprised that the "MicroTilt" has lasted more than 30 years, into an era of CNC production.
The "MicroTilt" has probably been retained, mostly for marketing purposes.

Negative Feedbacks? Lol The only negative feedback the new spoke wheel gets is from people who dont own. Its so much more simple and effective its unreal. I hope they never get rid of this design. Oh and yes I own this guitar. If you choose not to buy this guitar due to the cosmetic complaint you are stating......you shouldn't even own a guitar, let alone be posting on a forum about them. This design as of now is flawless. I can go from heavy gauge strings to light and set the neck in a matter of minutes. Sorry you two feel oppressed. This is now my goto over my'67 Tele

I personally don't see a need for that wheel, what's hard about inserting a hex into the neck at head stock? It's not like you're going to change curvature of the neck in the middle of a gig so you can stick a screwdriver in that ugly wheel... I see it as a marketing tool and lazy tool that doesn't really looks well...

Whilst Fender do supply the hex keys to adjust things, how many Fender supplied keys remain with their respective guitars?
Very few, I suspect.
Someone stripping out a truss rod adjustment nut because of the use of a wrongly sized hex key is likely to be something that occurs far more often than you'd think.

The new arrangement for the bi-flex truss rod is grounded in practicality.
It won't stop some idiot from working out how to break it, but it does make stripped out nuts a thing of the past.

Well than the ones who don't know the size of hex key of their premium instrument, should they strip it they deserved it

How, exactly, is it "so much more simple and effective it's unreal" compared to a headstock trussrod?

If anything, it's harder:

- You have to take care not to scratch the strings in an area they're played.
- You have to take care not to damage the fretboard.
- Because of the above, you can only turn a fraction of a turn before repositioning, unlike at the headstock where you can turn much more (unlimited with a truss rod tool).

Never mind that you can't just swap the pickguard because you need a special one there isn't much of a market for, or that you can't "fret" against the edge of the fretboard, or that you can't cover up the hole to stop dirt from getting in, or...

It's a solution looking for a problem.

People who shelled out the dough are not likely to diss what they voted for with their wallets.
People who vote against with their wallets will quite naturally be the ones who don't own.
So, yah. That's how it works in a capitalist society.
People vote with their wallets.
That doesn't mean they are required to remain silent about their votes.

This is very well put I didn't even thought about the strings and the area you can slightly damage em...
And damage the fretboard is really a good possibility.
