I was considering a purchase of an American Standard guitar, when someone gave me a suggestion that I should check out an Fender FSR Deluxe Telecaster/Maple neck-Butterscotch Blonde. For some reason I can't seem to be able to locate that member's recommendation, and for that I apologize, and thank him.
Nevertheless, I did investigate this particular guitar and found it to be a very good guitar, at a very reasonable price. It looks awesome. Living up here in Canada I have 2 options. Either I purchase on-line, ie. Ebay, or I can purchase at Long and McQuade Music locally for about the same money, or less. That part I can deal with. Another part that I can deal with is that it's $1180 less than an American Standard.
However, I'd like to know if there's more than one version of this guitar. I see several different model names attached to the guitar, on various websites. The guitars look to be the same, and the specs. seem to be the same, but two others were named: Special Edition Deluxe Ash Telecaster, and FSR Standard Telecaster. A YouTube video demo of what they referred to as an FSR Standard, was also referred to as a "limited run". That started me wondering if there was a model that in fact was a "limited run", and different to the others. I'm thinking that the FSR stands for Fender Special Run. Maybe somebody knows for sure about all of this. Reviews are giving 5 stars for this MIM guitar. It looks and sounds great.

Any comments are appreciated.....................Dave

FSR: FRS Support page "These products are specially commissioned by individual dealers and built to their specifications. As they aren't regular production models, FSR instruments and amps aren't generally available to every dealer, and Fender seldom provide specs or listings for them on its website. Your local dealer, however, should be able to provide detailed specs for any FSR products they offer."
The "special" part in these can be just the color, but also things like wood, wiring etc. But: usually the main specs follow the base model - like, in a Deluxe Telecaster, the heel should be contoured.
BTW1; Deluxe models seem to be on sale everywhere, due to the new Elite Series appearing.

Limited Edition: LE Series page Variations from the base model on these are usually bigger, and these usually aren't limited to certain dealers. Fender used to call these "instant collectibles".

So, there are several FSR and LE models available at the same time. You need to check the specs for each model to know what you're buying.

BTW2: If you absolutely feel you need a Stratocaster, don't go for a cheaper Tele.

Couldn't agree more with you on getting a cheaper Tele over an American Strat. you have missed out on a guitar second to nothing (IMO) What I don't undertsnd is why it was $1180 less that am American Stratocaster-(sure it's not a Squire) ??????

Well I'm totally confused now!! But here's some clarification regarding the pricing anyway. Up here in Canada, at Long and McQuade Music, probably the biggest music equipment outlet in the country, an American Standard Telecaster sells for $1760, and $1960, depending on the model you select. An FSR Deluxe Telecaster w/ Maple Neck-Butterscotch Blonde (MIM) sells for $880. That's $880 less than one of the American Standard Telecasters, and $1080 less than the other one. There's no denying that's a lot of money, at least it is for me.
In my particular case though, the exercise has been resolved once and for all. I bit the bullet, and just ordered a new Fender American Deluxe Telecaster 3-Colour Sunburst / Rosewood. I think that will do me just fine, and I can't wait to get my hands on it.
I'm obviously a Canadian, and I'm probably succumbing to all the marketing hype, but I don't care. I simply feel better if it says, MADE IN U.S.A.

Thanks for all your comments along the way...............................Dave

Congrats on the new family member. Just one question: how can a Canadian choose rosewood over maple..? 8)

On the big price difference: with the new American Elite series appearing, the Deluxe series seems to be coming to some kind of an end. So, the sellers hit it with big discounts - and this happens all around, not only in Canada.

Thank you gentlemen.
Yes rosewood, not maple. You just had to bring that up. I guess I'll just have to live with the shame.
