Hey there!

I just ran into this deal on a used guitar website and it seems too good to be true. The guy who is selling the guitar says it's a 2013 custom shop tele, made in the same factory as the Modern Players are. There is no serial on the headstock and the square jackplate really got me suspicious. It is up for about $450.

What do you think, could it be legit, or is it a Chender?

Modern Players are made in China. Are Custom Shop guitars made in China?

Fender Custom Shop guitars have never been made in China where Modern Players were made.
And this isn't even a Modern Player, but a fake. A bad fake at that.

- The truss rod hole is too far up the headstock. It should be halfway on the s-l-o-p-e above the nut.
- The headstock angled part under the tuners is too sharp. It should be much more rounded.
- The fretboard dots are too small and the dots on the 12th fret spaced too far apart.
- The strap lock points outwards. On a real Fender Tele, it always points towards the tuners, for good reason. This one will fall off the strap, which is probably a blessing.
- The wood grain is not maple.
- The pick guard is 1-ply mother-of-toilet-seat and has a sharp corner next to the control plate. Fender pickguards always have a rounded corner.

Report the seller for attempting swindle, and move on. I wouldn't pay $50 for this crap even if it didn't have a forged logo on it making it illegal.

It's as real as unicorns. If it seems to good to be true, it isn't true. Don't let your greed get the best of you.

When looking at trying to figure if a guitar is a Custom Shop guitar or not, think about all the CS guitars made. They all have a theme or use similiar parts. Looking at the guitar, it has an amalgum of various style of parts.

Whenever you are looking to buy a guitar like this: Take it appart!!! After market parts will be marked with a logo or name. If it's Custom Shop, it will say so on the inside.

If it's a special edition, look online for others just like it.
