Just bought my first tele - a new American elite ash blonde! It's just awesome. Plays great sounds great. I compared it to the alder version and the Ritchie kotzen versions. The Kotzen version had a baseball bat neck that had to be the biggest thickest neck I've ever played. Not my cup of tea. The tones while nice were not pure tele, which is what I was going for. The alder sounded better suited to chicken picking country twang; the ash sounded thicker more suited to rock. I know it's not supposed to matter in an electric guitar but I could definitely hear a difference. Maybe it was just pickup height or some other setup deal. All three had maple necks a well and all were beautiful guitars.

I was surprised that Kotzen likes such a huge neck. Just figured he'd be more into a thinner, speedier neck given his playing style.

First time poster. Also own a fender american deluxe ash strat from 2007 and my son plays a 3/4 mini strat! Took me a while but I think I'm now officially a fender fan-particularly due to that tele!

How do you figure that? His playing style incorporates thumb fretting, and bracing with the flesh between the thumb and first finger, and not the thumb itself. That playing style is usually easier with a V-neck. He also has large hands.

But congratulations on finding an axe you like!

Congratulations on your new toy and welcome to our forum!

FYI ...
We have an unwritten law here.
Pics, or it never happened.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Didn't realize he had all of that going on in how he plays. Never seen him play-only heard him. I'm a fan of the Winery Dogs though and hope they come my way so I can see them live. In fact, if they come to play near me I'll probably take my son who also recently started playing guitar. That would be his first concert and an excellent one I'm sure.

I'm sure too - there's plenty of energy there. At around 1:35 here, you can see his typical playing style and how he uses the neck:

Awesome video and great playing. He really has his own thing going on. Really hope to see the WDs live!
