I was wondering what type of music the stock Am Dlx people were playing. I don't think the N3's lend very well to Twang. Anyone play modern country?

I brought mine home a couple months ago. The N3's do not seem to get a lot of love, but they are perfect in my opinion.

I usually play fingerstyle jazz and pop standards. The Am Deluxe Tele is so clean and crisp I really like this for my style of playing. My playing is often described as "Chet Atkin's style". Based on that description, country music is in its DNA.

I sometimes blow off steam by playing The Who, rockabilly or blues and the Am Dlx excels.

Fit, finish and tone are excellent. This is one of the most versatile guitars on the market. Easy on the eyes, too.

Saw your other posts about your Dlx. Country cleans good and Chetty, but do you think the N3's gets you into vintage territory?

I upgraded my Standard to N3s, and have absolutely no regrets. Yes, they are humbuckers, and as such have more bass frequencies and a longer decay phase. In my opinion, that makes them more versatile.
To get twang with them, just pick closer to the bridge. It just shifts the sweet spot down an inch or so.

(I do play a little country, but only instrumental. The moment I hear constipated wailing, I head for the hills. Especially high lonesome style harmonies sung 20 cents off. Utterly vile.)

Close, but a bit thicker than the Vintage Tele twang. As Chet played FilterTron or SuperTron equipped guitars, the N3's, IMO, bridge between the vintage Tele and the Gretsch tones. Personally, I really like them, but they are not for everyone, but what pup is?

The N3s will probably be retired by Fender, since they are no longer offered in the Fender Elite.
Currently there is no retail price drop, but stay tuned.....
I picked up a couple sets of SCN noiseless on closeout last time around.

Actually within five minutes of me buying mine, it seemed deals started popping up on the internet for late run American Deluxes. I heard on another forum Adorama had them for $999 with coupon.

I am still happy with mine and the price I paid for it. I am uncomfortable buying a quality guitar on line. I spent a couple hours switching off between what I bought, an Am Std and a MIM.

Yeah, the N3's will fade into history as a discontinued product as is the American Deluxe series.

You can't buy a quality acoustic guitar online because different acoustic guitars of the same make and model will all sound different.
You need to play an acoustic guitar to know if you really like it, and preferably, play two or three of the same model for comparison.

But if you are familiar with a particular electric guitar, there should be no reason not to buy from a known, reliable online guitar store, or eBay "Top Rated Plus" seller, who is a licensed seller of the guitar manufacturer, as they should all perform relatively the same.

The worst that could happen is that you may possibly have to pay for return shipping, should you want to return the guitar for any reason.
Of course, if you do not set up your own guitar, you might be able to talk a brick and mortar store into doing that for free as a condition of the purchase.
And you might not want to ship a guitar in the cold winter months.

Those are about the only factors I can think of as to why you might want to avoid online electric guitar shopping.

With all respect, you are wrong. Solid body, mass produced guitars are not equal.

Some may be equally ordinary, but to find an outstanding guitar you need to play as many as you can, ideally side by side.

My AD Tele is old enough it came before N3s. Mine has VNs in it. It's a 2000. Those pups didn't get much love either but I find them to be good all-around workhorses. They don't do any one Tele aspect perfectly but they are quite good at every kind of Tele attribute you can think of. I've tried N3s a number of times (on other people's guitars) and in my opinion they aren't as good as VNs. I think the N3s got quite a bit of love initially, IIRC. I remember having to defend my preference for VNs. That task doesn't seem as tough now. The thing about pickups, though, people are fickle. Opinions change like underwear.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
