This is my first post in the "guitar" section of this forum!

I play upright & electric bass professionally, but I've played guitar for many years as well, mostly for songwriting and my own amusement. While I've owned a few electric guitars in past, including an '83 Telecaster, I've primarily owned acoustic guitars.

After borrowing a friends Stratocaster, I decided that I should have my own electric guitar. One that I could set up to my own preferences. I decided that it should be a Fender since I've always played Fender basses, my current ones listed in my signature below. As much as I like the Strat, I've always leaned toward the Telecaster for it's straightforward design and tuning stability. I went to a vintage/used guitar store to check out a used American Standard Tele, but I wound up buying a MIM Classic Series '72 Telecaster Thinline. This one was a limited FSR run for Guitar Center and is in a two-color sunburst with a parchment pickguard as opposed to the usual three-color/pearloid combination.

I really like the 70's vibe of this instrument, especially the chunky maple neck, and the wide-range humbuckers make a lot of sense to me. They retain some of the Tele "bite" but offer some additional thickness and warmth, especially the neck pickup which sounds nice for jazz solos and comping. It seems these guitars are well regarded and I'm glad that I found something a bit unique, even if it doesn't have a tremolo for my renditions of "Walk Don't Run" and "Apache" 8)

Despite my pro bass skills, I'm still somewhat of a hack on the electric guitar...but I'm hoping to improve.

Very cool...it looks like you have Tab Benoit's guitar before it logged a million performances!

I love the looks and sound of those axes...I don't know if I will ever have one, but they're really beautiful.

Happy New Guitar Day!

You're right. I've heard of Tab Benoit but I never noticed that he pretty much exclusively plays an early 70's Tele Thinline. I'll have to check him out.
