I am the proud owner of a 2008 Fender American Deluxe Telecaster Aged Cherry Burst Maple Neck. My Tele is 100% original. What I'm not sure about is the molded black Fender guitar case. Someone told me that in 2008 the Fender American Telecaster Deluxe's came with the black rectangular guitar case with the "RED" handle. Does anyone know which guitar case is correct for 2008? Thank you.

I do not know about the '08's, but that describes the case my '15 Am Dlx came in.

Thanks Bill. I'm guessing your Telecaster has the Fender locking tuners as well? My 2008 Tele Deluxe has standard tuning machines which are okay 'cause they work just fine. I have no tuning issues. It took me a while to get used to the Fender N3 Noiseless pickups, however they use alnico V magnets which are my favorite pickup magnets humbucker or single coil. I cannot see changing anything on this beautiful Telecaster Deluxe. This is my 3rd Tele. My first was a 1983 American Telecaster Sunburst Maple Neck with "top loading bridge". Buzz Feiten uses "top loading bridges" on his Tele copies because according to Buzz, the "top loading bridge" provides more sustain. Go figure. Back in 1983 Fender used the "top loading bridge" as a money saver but it turns out that doing so may have actually made for a better Tele. My second was a 2011 "60th Anniversary" American Special Telecaster Olympic White Maple Neck. Great guitar with those Texas Special pickups and (3) brass barrel bridge saddles. It wasn't until I purchased my Tele Deluxe that I caught the "Tele Bug". My Gibson Les Paul Standard Heritage Cherry Sunburst is collecting dust. The Fender American Deluxe Telecaster is a great alternative to the coveted Fender '52 Blackguard Reissue Telecaster which is the #1 Tele as far as I'm concerned. Fender has done a remarkable job of cloning the original '52. I'm really glad to see that Fender went back to the drawing board on that model and made it 100% authentic. Now, we'll have to see how Fender's new American Telecaster Elite does with those N4 Noiseless Pickups with the addition of the arm contour. They look pretty sweet in that "Autumn Blaze Metallic".

Yes, mine has the Sperzel locking tuners. I really like them, as well as everything else about the guitar. I also appreciate the N3's. The only noiseless pickups I had in the past were on my Les Paul 40th Anniversary with P100's. I really prefer the N3's as the reduce the noise, but the guitar still has the Tele timbre.

Sounds like you have a nice collection. Excellent list of guitars.

A 2008 American Deluxe would have probably come with the guitar-shaped molded plastic Fender case. In 2008 the new American Standards came out and they had the SKB case with the TSA locks; at some point between 2008 and 2010 the American Deluxes started coming with the same SKB case as the American Standards. I suspect the change happened whenever they ran out of the guitar-shaped cases.

The 3rd generation American Deluxes came out in 2010; they were shipped in the SKB case from day 1. The red-handled case replaced the SKB case roughly in the middle of 2013.

Getting back to the specs of the 2008 American Deluxe Tele - that is correct that they did not have the locking tuners; the Teles didn't get the locking tuners until the 3rd generation in 2010.

Thank you John. That's what I thought regarding the molded Fender guitar cases. Every 2008 Fender American Deluxe Telecaster I have seen for sale on ebay or Reverb all have this molded Fender guitar case. So, I suppose my gut feeling was correct. Thanks again John. It's reassuring to know that the case is correct to the year and model of my Telecaster.

Yes, usually American Deluxes (and now the American Elite) have at least the same case as the American Standards, and often they have a nicer case. From about 2000 through the end of 2007 both the American Series (as the American Standards were called from 2000-2007) and the American Deluxes had that guitar-shaped case. In 2008 the "new" American Standards came out and they included the SKB case with the TSA locks, so for about 2 years the American Standards had a nicer case than the American Deluxes. But I have seen some of the "generation 2" American Deluxes in the SKB case.

In 2013 Fender parted ways with SKB; the Deluxes came with the red-handled molded case (which I think is made by Roadrunner) and the Standards started coming in the black tolex Pro Series case, which is nice enough but not as nice the molded cases or the G&G sourced tolex/tweed cases that other models come with. I've noticed that since some time in the first half of 2015 American Standards have typically been coming in the red-handle molded case - although you'll still see the black tolex Pro Series or even the "standard" black tolex G&G case on 2015 American Standards.

The new American Elites have a different black handle/grey interior molded case, which also looks like a Roadrunner case.

Thank you again John. You have been extremely helpful. BTW, I own a really nice Grey Tweed G&G Guitar Case for my Fender "60th Anniversary" American Standard Stratocaster Vintage White Rosewood Neck. They are pretty heavy duty. Also pretty darn heavy to carry. The molded Tele case I have been discussing here is actually a big relief from these large rectangular Fender SKB and "Pro Series" guitar cases.
