Just curious as to whether other telecaster players out there have a preference for a contoured or a non contoured bodies on their telecasters? Also, do you think it effects the sound in any way and do you you think the old style non contoured bodies will become sought after? Here's the back of my 2005 American Series Telecaster:

In my opinion, the cut-out serves little comfort purpose, as few sling their guitar so low that the cut-out corresponds with their belly. But it does change the weight balance slightly, which in my opinion is a good thing, making it easier to play sitting without a strap.
As for sound, some will say every change affects sound, while others will say that nothing does. I'm in the former camp, but how and how much sound is affected will vary from instrument to instrument, and player to player. If what you do is light picking and a highly compressed signal (like Billy Gibbons), the resonance of the guitar is going to be of no audible importance. If playing it more like an acoustic, with a low signal with high amplification after it hits the amp, I believe it matters a great deal. But whether it's for better or for worse depends on the guitar.

Value wise, I don't think it will matter at all. There are so many guitars out there that there won't be a dearth of either.

+1

I'd like the old style, non contoured.

To me a Tele with a contour is not a "Standard". Nothing wrong with it, but it's a different model.

I don't really think the contour affects playability or sound very much one way or the other.

But the contour has been standard on American Standards since 2012.

I grew up playing Strats so the contour feels like home to me but I have no problems with the traditional Tele body. I love both.

The belly cut was a factor in chosing my Tele, which has one. I play sitting on a stool and the belly cut, imo, is more comfortable than the traditional bodies.

YMMV

I prefer the belly cut and would prefer the overall body thickness to be thinner as well

Well there's always G&L - they offer the back contour, a front contour, and now offer an option of a slightly thinner body. Evidently Dale Hyatt designed their original Broadcaster (renamed ASAT) with a body that's about 1/8" thinner than a Tele body, but they went to the normal Tele thickness by 1990 or so. G&L's been offering the thinner body for a year or two now.

Call me a traditionalist, but got to be a slab body, no contour. Never a good idea to contradict Leo.

Even when Leo did it? Several G&L ASAT models had contour cut-outs. He corrected many things he considered flaws in the original, and went to a better jack socket, a bridge that would intonate well also with a plain G string, and having a belly cut as an option.
