I was thinking of putting a vibrato arm on my Tele Modern Player, but not sure what to get. They make a Bigsby arm for the tele, but it's for the classic style two pickup version. Any thoughts?

Thanks

That particular Bigsby fits a Tele with the classic or regular bridge pickup, whereas the Modern Player has a different bridge arrangement.

That is another question ; Bigsby with the modern bridge.

Don't know if you can, write to Bigsby

First of all, installing a Bigsby is never just a drop-in procedure. On the Modern Player, it might need a new (maybe Adjusto-Matic™ or Jag style) bridge. And in the end there may be issues with e.g. the string angle over the bridge, intonating and so on.

Considering also the price of parts & labor vs the price of the guitar, I'd almost say forget the idea. At the least, think it through from every angle - and be prepared that the value of the guitar will not raise according to the costs of the mod.

It's of course possible; the CS department did it for NAMM 2014 in the Double TV Jones Telecaster

Perhaps this will not be an easy mod after all, considering the possible issues I might run into as you mention. The bridge on my Modern Player is different to the one in the link you provided. Perhaps I should contact Bigsby as suggested by stratele52.

This mod might well be best to forget.

Thanks.

It would be a pretty significant modification - but it looks like you would have to mod the Modern Player bridge in the same manner as shown in that link from Bigsby that stratele52 posted. Both types of bridge have the same construction for the back of the base and the saddle area; the only difference is the American Standard-style bridge has the longer plate that surrounds the pickup.

Agree. I'm really wondering now if this would be a mod to pursue. I'm going to give Bigsby a call and see if they have an arm that will suite the Modern Player, and also have a chat with my Luthier.

Thanks for all the replies folks.

I also would advise against it. Compared to the time, trouble, cost, and end results which are all a big variable, you could just pick up a Squier Tele with a Bigsby, new on eBay for around $300 and play with two guitars. Of course, my advise is questionable, it resulted in a basement full of guitars for me.

Sometimes a little GAS is unavoidable.
