Hello all,

To cut the chase: While browsing second hand Telecasters I stumbled upon a Classic Player Baja Tele in butterscotch blonde for 550 euros. New, these go for around 900 euros around here.

I've seen a stupendous amount of very good reviews on the Squier Classic Vibe Tele. Over here it's selling for about 450-500 euros new.

The seller of the Baja also told me I'll get a hardcase along with it.

So I just wanted to come in here and ask if I would be a complete idiot to let this one go past when I've wanted to own a Tele for many years now.

Difficult one, the CV is great value for money, on the minus side occasional pickup failures have been experienced. The Baja is probably the best Tele at that price point, beautiful neck and great pickups, can be a touch heavy for some. My advice would be try both in a local store if you can. If you can get the used Baja around the same price as the CV as long as it is original then go for it.

I'll support that "try both" advice.
Both guitars are fine instruments, but you may prefer the balance/weight/neck/other of one over the other. And BTW, only try guitars that are setup.

If that option is impossible, just do what your heart tells you.

I like the sound and feel of the Baja.

Well I went for the Baja. Not a single moment of regret. I thought that maybe the fatter neck wouldn't really suit me, but it plays just beautifully. The bridge pickup packs a lot of punch, but overall it is just a magnificent guitar.

I sounds just as I hoped a Telecaster would sound. Finally I have one in my possession!

The Baja is a very nice guitar.
The neck is fat but surprisingly playable, pickups deliver the classic tones plus that "series" combination which really makes it versatile.
I'm lucky enough to own one on the light side, since I prefer light guitars!
Enjoy!

There's a lot of versatility in a Baja Tele, with six different pickup combinations!
I wish they made them in more colors than blonde and black, though.
