It appears that the pink felt has bled into the finish of my butterscotch Telecaster. Why has this happened and how can I fix it?
Thanks,

Ouch!

If the case is one provided by Fender I would think you may have some recourse with them. Otherwise.........

There's really not a lot of ways to fix it. You can try wiping the guitar with a microfiber cloth with naphtha on it, which depending on whether the dye has soaked in deeply or not may help. (Get Zippo lighter fluid - that's naphtha. No other lighter fluid is safe.)

How about guitar cleaning products, like this 4-pack?

I'm often promoting that Zippo fluid, and it may work here, too. But it's not the only safe way even on nitro, and if the guitar in question is poly(ester) or PU (polyurethane) finished, they tolerate almost anything (up to acetone and Miraclean sponges; which both might result in needing a bit of polishing afterwards...).

If you won't buy those commercial cleaners, and the Zippo fluid doesn't work, try alcohol, but at your own risk: if in doubt, it's always wise to test the method/product on a part of the guitar that doesn't show (e.g. under the pickguard).

Guitar cleaners generally won't help on goo or dye; only mild grease and dust. They're for day-to-day keeping clean, and not much more.
In particular, do not use a polisher or a cleaning compound containing polish right now, as you might encapsulate the stain behind a shield. Polishes are great, but not for this.

What a bummer. Many years ago, I had a Guild F-512 12 string that was beautiful. Unfortunately. they sent it with the cheaper case. No problem, as it was a functional hard case and the "deluxe" cost more. I assume your stain is from the case (pink velvet?) After a fairly short time, I noticed my white binding had a purple tint to it. I thought I could polish it out, but couldn't. I didn't do anything too drastic since it was a nitro finish and I was afraid to rub it off completely. Also, there was no guarantee the dye didn't bleed into the binding as well. I didn't try the lighter fluid, naphtha fix though. That may work and I think it's safe for most finishes. Worth a try, but be careful and good luck.
