Found a Tele burst at a local pawnshop with a made in USA and serial# US12XXXXX on the back of the headstock which I understand means built in 2012 BUT the neck plate is blank except for the small 'CE' and disposal thing on the bottom... the bridge plate is shiny above the pickup and frosted with the Fender logo below and has the 3 barrel saddles and I don't remember any 'body scarf' scoop... The tuning machines are sealed with 'Fender' on the backs... thinkin' of givin' up 800 clams for it but I'm afraid sumpin is amiss... Any thoughts and/or ideas greatly appreciated and thanx in advance.

First thing to do: feed the serial number in the Fender database, and check if the result fits the guitar:

If you want ID'ing help from the forum, at least I need pics. Plenty, from every angle, high res...

Thanx for the reply... My concern was that possibly neck and body had not always lived together ...but I'll take some pix next time I visit my favorite pawnbroker (fortunately just to see the toys)

Unless it's a vintage model, I'd be wary of the guitar.
USA guitars of that age normally have Fender, Corona, and California on the neck plate.
From the information you've given it could easily be a hybrid of American and Mexican parts.

Photos really are needed!

The description fits the American Special perfectly. The ash tray bridge was originally done that way as the cover would hide the dull area. Am Special neck plates were all blank.

Is the "body scarf" like the tummy cut on Strats? The American Standard Teles had the tummy cut. If it's an MIA Standard, then $800 is not unreasonable.

Ditto. My first thought was that it's an American Special (may have been Highway One in 2012?)
But unless it comes with a hard shell case, $800 is hardly a steal. It's not a horrible deal, but I'd like to see it closer to $700.
Yes, it's a US model... that originally sold for about $1000 with a gig bag.

That would be my thinking as well.

I would also agree that he is asking beyond top money when you can buy the equivalent, now, American Performer new for not a lot more.

$800, w/ a hardcase is reasonable to me.
Definitely agree it sounds like a Special and maybe also FSR. I think 2012 was a big push year for the special line into the FSR world.
