Hi, I was hoping that one of the many wiring gurus could lend a hand to my predicament. In a few months I am hoping to build a partscaster with some complex wiring. What i was hoping was to have a hsh strat ( with the same pickups as the deluxe hsh strat) but with an s1 switch to supply me with the same pickup combinations as the hss deluxe strat. In addition I was hoping to have independent coil splits in the tone pots ( using a push pull pot, leaving only the most outer coils of the humbuckers) and an out of phase push push button ( like the passing lane switch) for the middle pickup. Any help is greatly appreciated, as I'm not to good at wiring diagrams where as others are. Thanks in advance for any wiring diagrams/ help supplied. :D

I'm absolutely no guru on wirings, rather on the contrary

But to get the topic rolling...
Depending on how much you know of electronics, and how well these comply with your ideas, here's a link to some diagrams you may find useful: Phostenics HSH

Unfortunately my electronics skills are quite limited ( when it comes to guitars), but thank you anyway! :) you're link did show me that a hsh with s1 would be possible. So thanks a lot!

Thanks for the link, although it is not quite what I am looking for in my wiring, I still appreciate that you have provided me with the wiring diagram for the longboard strat. :)

You could just simplify your setup by using 3 double pole double throw switches in place of the 5 way switch. Thus any combination of pickups is now possible and your push pull tone pots will do the rest as far as single or double coil preference. But you will need 3 tone pots ( choose smaller pots ).

It is a possibility, but it would have to be a last resort as I want to maintain the look of a HSH strat, just with the button for the push push out of phase switch, and the S1 switch knob. But thanks for the suggestion.

Bear in mind that chromeface's diagram illustrates 3 HB's which is better than an HSH since a single coil requires a 250k pot whereas your HB's need 500k . that makes it problematical when blending pups.
With HB's and single to dual coil options, all your tones and Vol pots are in the same K range and it won't sound like the middle coil is anemic... But YMMV

Also, also, If you completely shield all your pick ups and control cavities as well as the bottom of your scratch plate with copper foil ( far superior to the schmaltzy silver aluminum shield that is adhered to scratch plates ) then you can delete all your grounds from the pots. Run all of your pickup grounds to a screw anywhere in the control cavity where space allows. Your ground lead from your bridge also connects to the foil in the same manner. Done ...
All your pups and pots are now grounded. ( The pots are grounded simply by being affixed to the copper shielded scratch plate. ) You must confirm that the scratch plates copper foil edges connect the copper foil in the control and pup cavities. Overlapping the foil in the cavities over the top edge will ensure continuity.

This way you eliminate the possibility of a ground loop. If your control / pup cavities are all shielded and connected, then there is no need for grounds from the pots... If you leave or run ground wires from the pots you create a ground loop which causes higher interference thus increased noise...

You will have a very quiet Strat with minimal possibility of outside electrical interference. It's a pain to do but well worth the results..

I did this to my Telepartster build and with Texas Specials single coils the guitar is absolutely silent and impervious to external interference. Also make sure you buy shielded 22-25 gauge wiring.

Ok thanks, I am using the two humbuckers and an N3 'Single coil' (if it will work), in order to ensure a punchy tone and minimal feedback. Thanks a bunch for your tip about which wires to use, Much appreciated. :)

You're welcome and have fun, I don't envy you in the set up as it's complicated but relocating all the grounds to one location simplifies and really helps when you're in the middle of connecting everything and it all seems like a bad hair day...

By not grounding to the pots you also eliminate the chance of overheating and damaging a pot.

Thanks a lot for your help.

(edit) Is it possible to use an N3 noiseless pickup in the middle position with all the pots being 500k?, as that is the make or break of my project.
