Just picked up the new Am Std Stratocaster in 3 Color Burst / Maple Board. Outstanding piece ... plays like butter, elegant, well made, beautiful feel, just an excellent addition to my already outstanding collection of over 30 years.

I have a question about the rear tone knob which locks into place at fully open. Can anyone share any input as to why this does and to what benefit it might provide? Any info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Jeff

That sounds like a no-load tone control. When it's rolled into the "detent" position, it takes the pot completely out of the signal path to eliminate any potential attenuation of the pickup's output.

Hmmm where do I get one of these no load pots! I want one for my volume control that refuses to fricking stay on. that's the worst part of a strat design. the pot being so close to where the hand is (but I'll admit it's better than a les paul and it being 50 miles from the hand. they might as well have put it on the back of the guitar). I'm almost tempted to move my volume pot to the middle position and have the volume position be a dummy. Honestly I've never in my life used a tone control in my life anyways.

Yep, that's right.

First tone is on the neck pickup, second tone is on the middle and bridge pickups. Being a "no-load" pot, there's no extra dulling on the N+M setting unless you turn the second tone down, off of its detent.

Looking forward to your pics!

I wonder.....
If you put a no load pot in the volume you don't have any output in the indent position, am I wrong???

i always mod my strats to have a tone knob for the bridge pickup... easy to do. just add any type of wire to the terminal of the selector switch to the other unoccupied terminal... doing this means the bottom tone knob now works for the bridge pickup.

For those still wondering which connections to connect.
Looking at your upside down scratch plate. They are the #2 & #3 poles on the inside row of connections facing the Vol/Tone/Tone pots. Connect a small loop of 22-25 gauge shielded wire to both terminals..

Now the bridge is controllable. I would also add that using a TBX pot for the bridge tone allows you to really dial down the treble characteristics of the bridge. I use 2 TBX pots with some pick ups. Depends on your tone preferences..
