I am starting this post because of the difficulty I had in identifying a Strat. that I purchased 2nd hand. I thought it was a 1994 40th anniversary American Standard with an aftermarket pick guard, but it turned out to be a 1994 Limited Edition American Special Strat. Model #010-9400-715. I was excited to find out it was limited to a production of 600 guitars, but as hard as it was to identify the guitar (until the friendly folks at Fender solved my months long search for identity in 5 minutes), it has been even more difficult to try to put a value on the guitar. How much does the limited production affect the value if any? Any input on this guitar or stories of your unexpected finds would be informative and fun to read.

Hi and welcome aboard,

Pictures are very useful to further examine and identify your axe. Videos showing the guitar in action may also help a lot.

There's no American Special series in 1994 AFAIK. Fender released their first American Special guitars in 1998.

The best advice is to send an e-mail to Fender Consumer Relations Service: consumerrelations@fender.com

Here are some images of the guitar Chromeface. Talking to Fender it is listed as an American Special Strat limited to a production of 600 guitars.

Not so much an American Special more a Factory Special Run, FSR.
The American Special was developed from the Highway 1 in 2009.

Interesting that they gave such a limited run model a specific name. It was probably done for a single retailer, meaning it would be what we would now call an FSR model.

I do not remember these from 1994.

I can't speak for the body, but the neck is a 1994 40th Anniversary American Standard Strat. These would be the 40th Anniversary version of a say the 50th Anniversary Am. Series Strats that came out in 2004.

There isn't anything very special about them. They are an Am. Std. with a special logo. Some came with "...and still rockin'" neck plate and other came with "40th Anniversary" neck plate. According to my 2014 price guide, they are worth anywhere from $975 - $1275.

Paris did you notice the limited production run of 600 guitars in your price guide estimate?

Any guitar is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

The spec of this guitar is a bit like Marmite and a run of 600 isn't particularly exclusive.

I'd put Paris estimate as 100% on the money.

Not necessarily.

The first generation American Special series were developed from the American series guitars from that era, including the Floyd Rose Classics, Strat-o-Sonics, Tornadoes and Voodoocasters.

Read again, it was a run of 1200; 600 with rosewood and 600 with maple.
