Wow, that really is a nice piece of wood. It would be a shame to cover it with a solid color.

Just my opinion.

+1

The grain and character of each of the pieces is particularly well-matched.

I think he agrees too. Look at what he did with his sander. WOW. I am asking him if he'd stain. This is opening up a new can of worms but I think you guys are right. Shame to pain this...

I can't believe that beautiful piece of wood was underneath all that gunk. I'm like you. What to do now. Your guy has not re-finished guitars and this would be his first project. Ask him if he has experience with transparent paint. Maybe an oil finish? If he's not sure, perhaps pay him for his work and think about it. I hope it works out.

Says he can do transparents too. Honestly though... I have been looking and I don't see any strats that I'm really digging too much that are either stained or transparent. Any examples of something my guitar might look good looking like?

You could go with a nice thin blond finish...that would really set off the nice grain. If it was me, I would have him shoot with a nice tinted clear. Think early to mid 70's natural that has yellowed a bit. Beautiful hunk of wood there, be a shame to cover it.

Parts still on order. I can only find the bridge position black pickup covers for my noiseless pickups. I think it will have a black pickguard with the SSS Noiseless pickups. Then i'll also have a loaded HSS pickguard ready to go for when I get bored.

Troy really did an amazing job. We went with black with red metallic flakes. He would like to do some more guitars so if anyone is interested please message me and I'll give you his number.

I hear ya but I have a KOA tungsten oil Carver, an early 90's wood finish Ibanez, and a gold top PRS. I wanted something not so natural. Plus this can be sanded and done in a natural finish down the road just the same. Waiting for parts to finish it before posting pictures plus he is going to wet sand it and do another coat I think he said. It really is beautiful though the pictures don't do it justice.
