Hard to get good photos of the curves of a black guitar ... but a nice condition original Fullerton body guitar with a Herbie Gastelum neck! October 1987 ...

Nice one! October of 1987 - that's about the latest date I've seen for one of the Fullerton-style bodies. Does this one have the trem posts screwed directly into the body or does it have the inserts?

Looks like my N3 has posts screwed into the body. Would that make it a Fullerton and why might that be good/bad/better?

Some of the early strats made in the Corona factory in 1987 had bodies that were shaped after the old Fullerton bodies. They are rare as they were made for less than a year and most of the bodies coming out at the same time had the new Corona shape (I think this is correct).
I have some guitars of this era that have the Corona body and the wood screw bridge posts, but both my Fullerton body strats have wood screw bridge posts.
I think there were cracking issues with the wood screw bridge posts.

That's what I've read about the posts - and what I've seen online. I never really got to handle an American Standard until late 1987 so they were fully Corona-style. The only Fullerton-style Strats I ever got my hands on were the Reissues (and some of the Smith Strats were pretty deeply contoured as well).

I suspect that the Fullerton contours comes from the same people doing the bodies as were doing the Reissue bodies in the CBS era; once production ramped up then newer hires took over and the less contoured bodies started being produced.
