I need some poly to touch up the edge of a MIM neck. Not really the aged look but definitely more yellow than standard maple. Any idea how I should finish this? Regular wipe on poly ends up way whiter than the color of this neck.

Who else has had to touch up fret sprout and can't match the @#$@#$ color?

First: are you absolutely sure you're not obsessing over something which has no effect on sound/playability, and which nobody will notice..?
(I feel I have a right to ask, since I've been caught e.g. polishing the hidden underside of washers...) 8)

If not, the quick fix is coloring the problem area to match - the old Kiwi trick works.
The pro level fix is Minwax PolyShades (or similar) products.

Oh, in retrospect I wish I hadn't sanded it down. But since I did I'm trying to sort out how to color the area to match. If I can get close enough I'll sand the entire back and blend into the headstock.

I wonder if this is what happened to Eric Clapton? :D

It sounds like you have already taken it beyond a simple touch up. Having a rough edge means you can well the lacquer into the hole and then polish back level once hard. Feathering lacquer in is seldom successful.
