m = mexico
z = 2000
7 = 7

so z7 = 2007

I don't know for sure about upgrades, but if the last MIM upgrades were in 2006, then that MZ7 should have them.

I agree. I don't think there have been any recent upgrades to the MIM std model besides the addition of the two new colors and I really can't count that as an upgrade.

upgrades were done on the MIM standards in 2006
much thicker mass bridge block and there was a few other changes
to the MIM standard strat in 2006.

Evidently there was also a wood change. Does anyone have any details on this?

MIM'S STANDARDS upgrade 2006 to present are using
the same alder wood that is used on most american strats.
and the necks are cut and fretted in the USA and then sent to
mexico to be finished.

What wood were they using before 2006?
How were the necks cut & fretted before 2006?

Brchure says new for 2006 an upgraded model shielded body cavities, re-voiced pickups,thicker bridge and all come with gig bag. That was on a flyer. I also think that many were made of Poplar and not alder which I think all are now but for a few like the 48th street special that is made for Sam Ash still has the poplar body and there may be a few others.

my mistake. the MIMS 2006 to present standards are
alder bodys and the one i have has been modd and it kicks
some major butt. i have had many offers a much as $1,000 to
$1,200 dollars because of the tone and feel it now has. i did spend
a bout $450 on the modds $240 were just on the pick ups. but what
i have now is a awesome strat.

the new upgrades (2006) features New high mass tremolo block, wich improves tone and sustain they have fully shielded electronics wich pre-2006 didnt have

and overall better quality seems to me like the newer ones have better necks and electronics!....
