I love the tone and looks of a Fender Stratocaster. I love the functions and verstility.

What I hate? The shallow necks. They feel thin and flat. Yes, I wrap my thumb over the top. But I cannot work with the neck shape. Even the V-necks produce too much fatigue for my hands...

Its really not fun to play one even though all my hero's love them so much.

I like the massive feel of a 52 Telecaster.

Wish that feel of a 52 Tele was found in a Stratocaster.

Anyone else find the Stratocaster to be just uncomfortable to play after a while?

I've gone through more Stratocasters than any other guitar, about 18 of them in the past 7 years.

Warmoth makes the only neck I can deal with on a Stratocaster. Just wish Fender would allow them to slap the Fender waterslides on them so I wouldn't have to pirate them from questionable sources...

Well the great thing about the strat is you can change the neck unlike many set neck guitars.
What about the strat with the nocaster neck ... expensive but I think it is called the noneck strat and has a 51 nocaster neck... :D

+1

Or just buy a tele neck on ebay and bolt it to your Strat. If you ever sell the guitar just put it back. :)

I started out liking chunky necks and now I'm going for slimmer profiles. I'm looking for a 60's slim taper SG right now. I find if I play too much rhythm, my hand gets tired with either a large or slim profile. On lead, I move around a little better with a slim profile. My Warmouth Round 50's neck would probably be what you're looking for.
My biggest problem with my Srats is my inability to get the tone I want. I'm always fighting too bright. But I'm working on that.

I know you've been through a lot of Strats, but believe me, no matter what FMIC may say is this or that model's standard neck profile:there are fat-necked Stratocasters out there! I like pretty fat necks myself, even tho' I have fairly small hands. One reason I've never been able to bond with LP's was that I just found the necks too slim and shallow for comfort. I know it may seem like work to find one, but both of my Strats (a '72 and a '97) have necks that are fatter and deeper than most. So all I can say is keep looking, it's amazing how much just a little variation away from exact Fender neck spec can influence the feel of a Strat neck. They do exist, and they do slip through.

The American Vintage '56 Strat has a very thick neck...a real handful, but beautiful if you like thick necks. Pricey, though.

I've read the 70's Strats had a U-shape neck... Does it resemble the baseball bat necks of the early tele's?

If you're asking me to describe the neck on my '72, I'd say it's more of a "D"-shaped neck than a "U". That is, wider and a little deeper than most of the modern "C" profiles, but not as deep as the "U"-shape. Definitely not a baseball bat, tho'. HTH,...O.

Have you ever tried a Classic Player '60 or a Jimmie Vaughan Strat?
If I'm not wrong those should carry a rather fatter neck???

If you are looking for something along the lines of a Gibson 50s neck good luck . To me the Modern C is a toothpick. The beefiest I ever had was a SRV with the 12 inch radius and 6105 frets. The ones I have now are middle of the road , but not really beefy.

If you have not tried this yet, lower the value on your tone pot, or increase the value of the Cap.

Clearly the OP has gone through many more Strats than I have however when I think of a Strat I think of a simple workhorse of a guitar having its own unique tone and sound. Part are changeable and it is not a real real expensive guitar relatively speaking. With that said every guitar has its own tone. Different years offered different contour necks PUs etc. I was just at the music store playing 4 different Strat guitars 2 necks felt the same to me real comfortable but one I thought what the heck! I did not like the neck at all. I do not even know enough about the different necks to know what was the difference. So getting back to the topic love or hate is probably in the hand of the holder of the guitar imo.

Absolutely. We are all different but the Strat probably comes closest (in one of its many guises) to being all things to all people.

I only have three. They are all slightly different but also very similar. I like the similarity as I can pick up any of them and play them without thinking about them being different.

I love the fact that they are all just a collection of parts as you can change those parts to see what difference they make. Some changes work, others might not, but none will cost you a guitar to get back to where you were if you go the wrong route.

Comments regarding neck profiles are particularly interesting. I don't dislike my necks but have been thinking I might like a V neck more. However, if I were to go that route, and liked the new neck, I would then like my current necks less. I'm of a view to remain content with what I have.

Of all the V-shaped Fender necks the Clapton is by far the more comfortable.
