I love U2, and the Edge is an iconic guitarist instantly recognizable by sound alone by more Music Fans around the world than all but a handful of modern guitarists alive today.

That bell-like intro to "Red Hill Town" , the shimmering, piercing chords in "Pride", the soulful "With or Without You"....

Re: Fender releasing a signature model, I would guess on the business side it is more about the association of the instrument with the Fender Strat than selling the actual signature model. As has been mentioned, he also played a Gibson Firebird, Gretch...

I have a Les Paul that I play Guns and Roses , Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin with. I have a Stratocaster that I play Hendrix, Clapton, SRV and yes U2 with.

None of them are Signature models. And none of those artists are exclusive to those guitars. (note: Slash played a BC Rich, Jimmy Page played a Telecaster, Joe Perry played a Strat....)

The point is, for Fender, the association and brand identity with these instantly recognizable artists. They have a Hendrix Signature model out - is that any more necessary than the others for actual playing?

The only signature guitar model in my house is...yes, an Avril Lavigne that my now 10 year old plays. She loves it.

Hopefully I can keep her going and upgrade her to a Gibson Melody Maker "Joan Jett" model someday.

A Corona American made would sell for about $1500? I would think it would be built to rock.'
Looks like locking tuners and a 2 point trem. Good American pickups?
Any spec sheets?
This is happen right?

Yes, these have been hitting the streets for a while. Unfortunately for this one the MAP is the same as an alder-body American Elite - $1,799.99. Willcutt's in Lexington KY has had several of them in since late January, and I noticed that Sweetwater put one up yesterday.

The neck is a mashup - big headstock, 21-frets and American Standard shape and the all short post locking tuners like an American Elite. Pickups are 2 Fat 50s (with flat polepieces) and a DiMarzio FS-1. The body and tremolo are from an American Deluxe so it's got the old-style beveled heel, solid saddles and snap-in arm. Here's the Fender webpage:

The only thing not knocking it out of the park to me is that 21 Fret issue. Fender recommended that I get a Fender Slouch Beanie stocking cap and a Fender "Ace Frehely" lightning bolt leather guitar strap with it.

On the specs it seems sort of weird a USA would take a 3/16" Allen wrench for the truss?
