Someone on the U2 Stage and Studio Facebook Group posted this picture of The Edge during this tour - hinting to look at the signature of the headstock. And assuming that there could be a signature guitar of him on the way. Looks indeed like Edge's signature. Who knows. However if I think of an "Edge"-Strat, the all black Strat comes more into my mind.

Maybe someone of the fender.com team is willing to reveal the secret ;-)

With the Adam Clayton Jazz Bass and Bono's Gretsch "Irish Falcon," it only makes sense, especially seeing as the Edge is now affiliated with Fender. :?:

My guess would be a black, single pickup Strat that only makes noise when barre chords are played through a delay unit hooked to an echoplex.

when i heard that bono had a signature guitar I almost lost it. i'll admit that I don't listen to much u2, but is he a good enough player to deserve a signature model?

I can understand why some may not appreciate his playing but there is no denying he has taken a particular style and developed it to what others may consider an art form. He isn't SRV or Clapton or Beck etc. but is a guitarist with a distinctive style that many try to emulate and a good number fall short.

There are a number of Signature guitars from people I've never heard of. At least that wouldn't be the case in this instance.

I agree with John, where this has more to do with popularity, and being a player with recognizable style than it has to do with how good a player is. And the Edge certainly has accomplished this. Much like Alex Lifeson, (who IMHO is a great guitarist), the Edge has quite a lot to do with what has made U2 sound like U2. no one else would "fit".

Although I'm by no way a fan of anything U2 has done, I do respect WHAT they have done. (much like the Stones, don't like em, but appreciate their contribution to rock and roll)

kidblast- just to be sure- I am not questioning the edge having a signature guitar. it's bono I'm talking about.

as I said, I don't listen to much u2, but is bono a really deserving player based on ability, or is it just another way to make a buck for the guitar maker?

ah.. ya know, I wouldn't know that myself, like you, I don't follow U2 much.

I know he does play some guitar and perhaps some piano, I recall when he got into his bike accident, he mentioned not being able to play guitar was bugging him.

either way, I think the point of the story was The Edge, not Bono.. wasn't it?

If I'm remembering correctly the Bono guitar that was sold was just one of the MIJ Gretsch models in a different color (for some reason I'm recalling a White Falcon done in metallic green and called the "Irish Falcon" or something similar), and some of the proceeds were donated some charity that he specified. More for the collector/band fan/supporter of that particular charity types than players.

The good people of Gretsch have evaluated Bono worthy of (...wait for it...) two signature models:
The Irish Falcon and The GRETSCH RED, the latter is the charity model.

Personally, I have no trouble with this, and The Edge certainly deserves a signature model - if someone can pick a guitar model for this from his tour selection...
