Old post resurrected with some odd statements in it.
Lets be clear most pickups are machine wound including the texas specials even the ones from the custom shop bearing cloth wiring
"Handwound" which are machine fed by hand command a premium price. Generally they are marked as such either with the winders name e.g. abby or josefina or initials e.g. bp, ld etc and the date of the wind.
Because of the price premium of handwound pickups they are as a rule not found on assembly line guitars but instead are the realm of custom shop guitars or as special box issues. :D

Hello!
I have American Special Startocaster 2017 model. Sonic Blue, texas special pickup , cloth cable and not plastic cable, what do you think about it?
Real Texas Special Custom Shop?

If the guitar is legit, and it's in factory stock condition, rest easy, they are Texas Specials.

No pick up is truly hand wound. The difference being totally automated or hand controlled. Which is really not the same as hand winding which I cannot imagine would be feasible cost or time wise.

I've done it. It took me five nights to hand-wind (over-wind) three pickups. Got quite a few compliments on the sound.

I sure wish I had them now. :(
